It is early days but I think staying up is all we can hope for as it is not clicking for us. Reminds me of first season in championship

This display is so reminiscent of the Villa we all hated the season we went down. Under the cosh from the off, constant mistakes just waiting for their goal to arrive. With 10 men now to get through this will be nothing short of a miracle. The ref hasn’t helped but this has been really dire all round.

Blimey way OTT. We've been competitive in all the games so far so way different to 15/16, just lacking in the final third at times.

Did someone get a little overexcited with their cosy US chat with DS by any chance?

What does it matter about the other games this season? My comment was specific to this game. We are playing a team that will be in that lower half of the table with us and we have looked awful for most of the game.

And as for your last comment I have no idea what that even means. Clearly my chat with Dean Smith in the US hasn’t stopped me for calling his tactical ability out when needed. So I’ll commend him as needed and criticize when deserved. We have been second best all game against Crystal Palace.

I just think you're getting a bit above realistic levels. I remember you referencing Dean's bold "we'll attack everyone home and away" comment.

A newly promoted prem team no matter how much money they've spent simply isn't going to do that.

Today will be fantastic backs to the wall point if we hang on. You need those to stay up just as much as comfortable home wins v Everton.

Which isn't happening now as Ayew just scored.

I’m not getting above anything. We haven’t competed. To stay up we will need to compete against sides like Palace who are absolutely nothing special. It would be completely different if this was Man City away or even a side like Leicester.

And frankly you stating that I said DS would attack is making my point for me. We haven’t attacked. And when tried to we gave the ball away cheaply. It’s put us on the back foot from the start. That’s something that we should have improved upon by this point and at this level whoever we play it’s going to kill us. And as much as the ref is shit our players got booked in part through being naive. So DS should be criticized tonight for not being able to counter Palace. That’s for him to learn and improve upon.

We need to get more streetwise at this level that's one thing I'd agree on. Does feel like the opposition are playing on us being naive atm. If players are on yellows you run and get into tussels with them. Always seems odd to me at VP when a FB for opposition gets booked early and then we hardly run at them for rest of the half.

Palace 11 might not look great but they are a solid and experience team that are tough to score against.

Frustrating loss. West Ham and Arsenal after the break will be hard ones aswell. Think I'm just happy we got a win early on as it took Cardiff until mid October last season to get their first win.

Then they're idiots. The goal was just jammy as fuck. It happens. Especially to Villa.

We'll pull this out of the fire.

Come on the Villa.

Trezeguet isn’t rubbish, obviously. But id be resting him after today even if he hadn’t been such a thick twat. Looks a bit all fart and no shit so far.

Will be out for West Ham. Will see if we bring back El Ghazi or Hourihane for more narrow midfield.

England’s Ming’s at fault?

He is not good enough to play for England yet, I'm surprised Southgate has fallen for the blood and thunder play he's shown in the opening games.

Personally I don't think he is fully fit as he has this groin strain that he needs injections for to get through the game!

It wasn't his fault ffs.

Some commentators are fucking awful at their research. Banging on about Benteke coming on ''and how often do we see former players scoring against their former club?" without once mentioning that it's already happened in this game.

New additions not good enough. Trezeguet is straight rubbish. Jota was anonymous. We have no service to Wesley who I actually think is a decent player. Pathetic.

Still better than summer 2015....

Why are you talking about a transfer window four years ago? WTF does that have to do with this squad?

I think in time some of these players will turn out to be good premier league players just like say Gana did. Also shows just spending 50 odd million dosen't guarentee anything despite getting fans excited.

I'd put Hourihane in as first choice. El Ghazi or Trezeguet haven't shown that they're worth a starting place to me.

Going to fizzle out to a 1-0 loss I'm afraid.

Fair enough and you may be right. Unfortunately, the transformation they experience often occurs after they have left the Villa! But I take your point.
