What this result will do is give everyone immense belief. And with three very winnable games coming up now starting on Tuesday it will hopefully create some great momentum if we can get some good results and a few goals. Start with Crewe, get the job done and take that to Palace. It will be good to see a few other lads involved this week like Marvelous, Konsa and Targett.

Easily the biggest positive from last night is that we now have our first win on the board, and the difference that is going to make to our confidence.

I think it is going to take five or six games for this team to gel, we're three into that spell and have beaten a decent side, having played very well. We went to Spurs, took the lead, had an exceptional first half, we played Bournemouth, gave away a goal inside a minute, and a freak deflection ten minutes later, and still deserved something from the game.

I think we'll begin to play with more conviction now, and we'll see more of DS's football ethos in the way we go about things.

Agree completely. The win was crucial to support the ongoing development of the team.

On holiday so it's not easy to keep track but for me last night showed exactly why some people were calling for Freddy to replace Elmo, his willingness to run behind their fullback created acres of space for Jota and Wesley who looked superb exploiting it. The first goal was a great example, Freddy played the pass and then belted forward which forced their fullback to hold his position which gave Jota time to pick his pass.

Don't worry, you've been given props on the other thread for pointing it out.

paul_e can take the plaudits for his tactical insight, however I’m going to have to claim responsibility for the win...my 1980 replica shirt made its winning debut at Wembley for the playoff final and I made the executive decision to summon and invoke the powers of 1980 last night. You’re all welcome 😎

Similarly I had my Dalian wonder goal t-shirt on at Wembley AND again last night.

I've had to move out of A4 into A3 like some sort of peasant, so I have been wearing my Luke shirt to games. P3, W2, L1. However, I'm unsure as to the luckyness or not of other items of clothing I may or may not have been wearing.

Someone shrewdly pointed it out earlier in the thread but didn’t at first realize what a good job Luiz did on stifling Sigursson.

MOTD editing again really poor, didn't show the Wesley chance straight after his goal.

My daughter is 22 and has been going with me since she was 5. Last night on the train home she said...Dad....is this like the old days you keep on about ? !
Love that post CCR. Sadly, being here in Aus, I’ll not get to experience anything similar. My girl is 8 and I think she gets how I love Villa, but unless they feel it first hand, it is difficult to convey.

I plan to take her to watch Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium at some point, but it’s a whole different world to a rocking VP under the floodlights. You’re a lucky man to have that experience.

Could say so much, only now have I managed to finish reading the thread.
A wonderful night, special for the many reasons people have said, well well worth getting home after midnight.
If there is an link to the game and especially the post match (didn’t stay to see the players right off the pitch) that would be great?

For those on Facebook there is at least the 10mins of post match sky interviews with SJM, Mings & DS shared in the Villa group https://www.facebook.com/groups/668258313540985/?ref=share

Btw, was there anything apart from a passing reference on Radio 5 to listen to post match, WM clearly couldn’t get it together to have something, I guess if it’s on Sky that’s seen as saturation coverage and no post match stuff to listen to? Would I have had to have sought out Talk Sport?

The slightly confusing thing with Villa at the moment is just who might a favourite player be. It’s be easier to try to name one or two to rule out; this is very unfamiliar stuff.

Like a lot of you, the Villa love is back stronger & deeper than ever it seems. Long may we stretch and build this momentum, and see Deano through the tough times. I’m fascinated to see how we do this and next few seasons.
