Villa shares
«
on:
August 07, 2019, 09:37:58 AM »
My nephew in Australia has received a letter from Link Asset Services addressed to Mr Robin William Leech at his address in Sydney. His name is nothing like this and there has been no one with this surname in the family or friends in living memory. It is headed 're Your Aston Villa plc Shares' and refers to an unclaimed entitlement. We assume that it is a scam but has anyone come across this? I bought shares but they were all either given away as presents or sold back to the club on the take over.

Weird, I actually found my old share certificate on Sunday whilst sorting some papers, hadn't seen it for a few years, it has been re embossed by the Randy Lerner regime.

I got two! One in my name and another in the name of someone I've never heard of.
I did notice they wanted to charge me 15% (plus VAT) for claiming this on my behalf, and that the wording refers to "a voluntary service provided... on behalf of Reform Acquisitions Limited...". Oh and they'll charge you 12p a minute of you want to talk to them about it.
I assumed they were just ambulance chasers to be honest and am ignoring it.

I never sold my token share, it’s in a frame in a box somewhere. Take that Lerner.

It's also got Data Protection breach written all over it too.
Someone seems to have information they shouldn't have.

Thanks folks, it is as we suspected. I think that the name - effectively- robbing leech was a bit of a give away. I have passed the info to the club.
I also have a share certificate from 1969 for one only* and an undated share certificate stating that I now have 20. Plus a certificate from Doug in 1969 thanking me for my donation of £1.0.0 "as an expression of loyal support when it was most needed" ah those were the days.
*I had planned to buy 2 but spent the other £5 going to Southampton for a cup game.

The club has passed my message to the legal team. However the letter is in Sydney and was copied from Messenger, it is too blurred to read easily. If anyone has an original could they send it to the Villa please?
Goodness knows where they got the address from, when he has been over I have bought his tickets and have never passed his address on.

Mine's in a frame too, on the wall at my dad's house.
Got a similar letter myself this week. To be honest, I just ignored it. I didn't sell my share to Lerner out of principle, and aren't planning to change tack now. Way I figure it, my granddad bought those shares in 1969, with no intention of making money out of it, and signed it to over me on my 16th birthday. Hell will freeze over before I let them go.

Link Asset Services is a legit company though. It’s likely that there are a shareholders who never sold out to Randy. But no sense why now they would try and cash them out at the agreed price at the time?

Is it possibly due to Xia trying to salvage as much money as he can?
