Dear H and V....
« on: July 31, 2019, 10:40:47 PM »
Recently at the age of 49 I have found myself doing increasingly one would consider strange things all linked with my beloved football club.

I find myself at times on my own in my house or sometimes in public singing the John McGinn song.

I also sometimes even find myself disposed to doing a little bit of the allez song.

Worse still, the times I致e stopped whatever I知 doing and started jumping up and down to an old bad manners number named after one of our former loan players is starting to become worrisome.

I find myself repeatedly watching the play off semi final and final key moments as well as the away support at Rotherham.

All of a sudden believe in what the manager is saying and find his unabashed quiet confidence but maintaining a humility about him causes me to have a bit of a crush.

What is happening to me?  I feel I知 quite mature, sound of mind, and generally sensible in thought process.

Can you help?

I'm also 49.

All of the above is normal behaviour. Enjoy yourself.

Weird isn't it?  We might have to get used to the following this season:

Playing quite well
Winning some games
Not shitting ourselves for the last 10 minutes despite being 2-0 up
Actually looking forward to watching Match of the Day

I used to be 49, I feel and do the same, is it okay for me to enjoy these feelings as well?

I知 nearly 54 and doing exactly the same.
Infact, I watched extra time and the celebrations from the PO final AGAIN tonight, it must be about the 20th time I have done that.

A grin is never far away from my face either.

No help need - your a perfectly rounded and sane person - certainly mentally.  You will go far in life.

I'm approaching 54, and Jedinak's penalty and immediate aftermath is one of the most beautiful moments in my life.

I'm as excited about Villa as I was when I was a kid. It's brilliant.

Can't wait for the first game but, even if the Tottenham game doesn't go well as you might realistically expect, I really can't wait for the Bournemouth game at The Home of Football.

Lol...I'm over 50 and feel exactly the same except I also seem to swing from tears of joy to strident loin-stirrage. Is this normal ?

the one thing I have learnt from following Villa home and away for nearly 50 years is that it is a roller coaster and whatever low you may feel, we always manage a bounce back.

I don't like modern football but Villa love as much as when I first eyed the club.

You young striplings have fallen victims of an illness that broke out in industrial Birmingham in the 19th Century.  It was first attributed to young men breathing  the fumes of street gas lamps. Due to the tireless work of a Scot by the name of William McGregor the disease known by various local names, most commonly Astonitis or Wittonism, sometimes Gasworks Delirium the illness was overcome by encouraging the watching and playing of Foot Ball.  To that end a treatment centre was created first in Perry Barr then later on the Aston Lower Grounds where treatment continues to this day.

I myself have suffered from this illness for nearly three quarters of a century with periods of remission brought about by the centre falling into the hands of quacks and mountebanks.

Recently I have felt much more my normal self.  When told that the new man in charge attended a local Conservative Club, I replied "Great"
