Yep this one is a bit of a shame, looked like a really good defender when he arrived but has been overtaken by Konsa and seemed to pick up a stream of injuries so probably best for everyone for him to move on.

We'll need a replacement obviously. Another right-footed CB? Axel to return?

The writing's been on the wall for ages unfortunately. Hopefully he'll be Bjorn again at Antwerp.

Shame it never worked out. Can’t really blame him, it’s going to take some budging getting past Konsa and Mings. Good luck to him.

Club announced his sale to Royal Antwerp on AV site for this weekend with medical planned
I liked this lad but shame it didn’t work out. Broke my heart with that mis clearance against Spuds. I wish him a long successful career.

Same here, thought he was a bargain buy in our first few games in the Pl.

As Flin5tone might have said if he hadn't flounced off, it's Abba-abba-done!

Always liked Engels  but i thought he lacked pace and was behind Hause as well as Konsa and Mings  so probably best for all for him to move on

Slow and not great in the air. Not surprising we are happy to let him go. Good luck though.

I really liked him, enjoyed his commitment to the cause, and his appreciated his intervention when our away fans were receiving some rough treatment from stewards and police during a game a couple of years ago. For that alone he could have gone down as a bit of a cult hero.

Ultimately his partnership with Mings at the start of the 19/20 season probably goes down as being similar to the Vlaar/ Senderos partnership from 14/15, which burnt bright but short. He clearly lacked pace, and the mistake against Spurs was difficult to overcome unfortunately.

Like others, I wish him a long and successful career.

It will be interesting to see how Smith decides to deal with defensive cover. Engels didn't get a look in last season, but if we are unlucky with injuries, the third and fourth choice centre-backs could see much more game time.

My too memories, the Screw up against Spurs and the header that was close v Man City in the League cup final in the last live game I’ve seen.
Good luck at your new club
