Brendan Ormsby
« on: April 02, 2019, 10:44:52 PM »
Just came across this on Twitter about Brendan Ormsby. Such a sad story. After having a stroke in late 2013 he’s had cancer, a heart attack and now has two forms of epilepsy which means he now cannot speak relying on his wife as a carer 24/7.

Doesn’t look like he’s got much PFA support either. Mind you they need to save their money to buy Lowry paintings for millions of pounds.

Surely Villa and Leeds could come up with some form of help for their former player?

I can’t find a direct link from the Look North programme but the Twitter link is below for those of you that use it.

Leeds had a charity game and Villa did a golf day after he had the stroke.

Terrible news. I believe he was a Villa fan as a kid as well as playing for us. I remember him scoring the winning goal at the Holte End in the 4-3 victory over Albion on the first day of the season in 1983 and I think he also scored a winning goal for us away to West Ham from around the centre circle as well. I recall reading a humorous story in Ian Snodin's autobiography about when they were team mates at Leeds and he was known for being the biggest boy in the showers so to speak.

Someone on that Twitter post suggested getting the buckets out when we play Leeds at the end of the season which seems a decent idea.

Shame, used to watch him in the youth team many years ago. Doesn't look like he has had much luck with his health over recent years.

So sorry to hear of his failing health - puts my own health issues into perspective - hope he has the support of a caring family around him

I know we have two extremely wealthy owners I think they could dip into there combined considerable wealth and help him out it would be such a great thing to do for one of our own.

Doesn't it just?  PFA, what's the point?

I’m surprised they haven’t been of more help. They have been absolutely wonderful with my son. When he suffered a career ending injury they paid literally thousands of pounds for one of the world’s leading knee surgeons to operate on him and although he’s no longer in the pro game he is potentially fit enough four years later to be playing again. Plus they have supported him with a bursary to do a degree. They are not all bad.
