A win tomorrow and a draw with Bristol will keep us both away from the chasers but I don’t think boro have got enough so only derby and Wednesday to worry about I reckon

Derby even less of a worry than Boro imo. They were desperate at Blackburn tonight, hardly had a shot on target and not won away since Dec 29th.

Guess only worry is they play WBA last day as they're probably so small time they'd rather lose that and risk their own place in the top 6 if it meant we missed out. We'll be home and dry by last game I reckon.

Is it really luck with the results around us? Or is that outside of Norwich every team contending for spots 2-6 is average and can lose to anyone? And I would contend strongly albeit hypothetically that had Dean Smith had this squad from day one we’d be up with Norwich.

This side with the main players fit most of the season and with Smith in charge and we'd be promoted already. We're 5th despite 2 shit runs that combined gave us 4 wins in 27 games (2 wins in 13 and 2 wins in 14).

When you put it like that it's a miracle we're anywhere near it.

Bristol seem to have been excellent for 15 minutes and then battered by the Stripey Filth 2nd half.

An amusing comment on a Bristol forum in response to "bring on the Villa" was "Yes, I need a holiday after watching that!".

Results are good tonight.

Preston & Forest now out of it, leaving ourselves, Bristol, Derby & Boro chasing 2 spots.

Derby have lost tonight and if we win tomorrow, they will need 7 more points than us from their last 6 games (to our 5).  Boro need 6 more points than us from their last 5 games.

Also if we win tomorrow, we're only 4 points off WBA.
A pretty good analysis there.
BUT, it all comes down to us. We just have to do the business tomorrow.

Yes it all comes down to us.

However, I'd sooner we need 9 or 10 points from the last 18 than 12+.   It makes our task so much easier and also does not take me (and 1000s of others) to hell and back along the way.  The more points our rivals drop, the less games we HAVE to win.

10 more points for us sees Boro needing to win 4 & draw 1 of their last 5 and/or Derby needing to win 4 & draw 2 of their last 6.  Both must remain undefeated to catch us if we can hit a modest target of 10 points.  12 points would almost certainly see us home and dry.

For 10 points, we can afford to lose 2 and draw 1 of our remaining 6 games.

Yes, it is in our own hands and yes we needn't worry about others.  That doesn't mean we have to ignore others because it is their results that dictate our own target.

Just had a read - 10 points from those last 4 games is an incredible return to be fair.  They should not be taken lightly, either now or in the play offs.  Last season saw 3rd v 4th in the final at Wembley.  This time, it could quite easily be 5th verse 6th.

Anyway - You missed the quote of the thread:

Love these WBA fans, most important thing is Villa not going up😆

Win the next two and our place in the play offs is pretty well guaranteed I'd have thought. That would put us on 69 points with four to play.

If we can't beat Rotherham, Bolton and Millwall we don't deserve to go up. That leaves one win to get and maybe an extra point from the other three games.

If we can keep our winning run going then a play off place should be secured well before the last league game of the season.

Something seems to be going wrong over in Smethwick and we could well finish above them if our respective current trends of form continue.  We win our next two games and they don't beat Preston on Saturday and they will really start feeling the heat.  Finishing 4th would mean the 2nd leg of the play offs would be at home so it is worth going for.

I never knew the schedule was predefined by where you finish. I guess it makes sense. Cheers, Tom.
Playing in a half empty Hawthorns will be a strange one should we only finish 5th.

Don't take that as gospel mate, just always thought it was the case!! Us and Fulham both played the second legs at home last season if I recall correctly.

I think we probably will make the play offs, but with 6 games to play are we getting a bit ahead of ourselves how we want the running order to be ?

4th, 5th or 6th. I don’t care. Just get us in there.
