Bruce's remit was promotion. Smith's was to build something for the future. The board said immediate promotion wasn't necessary, building for the future is.

We have been shite of late but we have to have a stiffer upper lip than this. We've tried the swapping manager's route and it doesn't work. We all want Villa restored to our former glory and yes that seems a million miles away but we've got to be patient now and hopefully see the benefit later.
