Of all Gerrard's crimes, stripping Mings of the captaincy must be the worst. Shameful.

Not to mention really stupid.

Another punditry masterclass from Eni Aluko last night I notice.

“Mings and Konsa’s partnership was crucial to their successful season last year.”

And then interviewing Emery: "how pleased were you that Watkins scored the penalty?". Devastated I imagine, managers absolutely hate it when their players score a goal.

She's easily the worst pundit there's even been, who on earth watches her performances back and decides to keep employing her?

I'm no fan of hers and think she is generally pretty poor, but pundits have asked that question in various forms for years and years. She is only taking a lead from the men who have gone ahead of her with that nonsense.

File it with 'Newcastle fans love a great number 9'. Yeah - cos if there's one thing the rest of us can't stand....

Commentators have always said stupid stuff. Women get pulled on it.

I’d just like to point out here that Lucy Ward is one of the best co-commentators going. In fact, when I think about it, the best.

I think it really jolted the squad and not in a good way. I think McGinn looked embarrassed about the whole thing at the time.

Although it was never reversed, even when McGinn was dropped under Emery for a few games. It might have been that Emery didn't want to make the change back and maybe cause another disruption, and we all know Mings was leading as much as McGinn. Then, he knew he wouldn't be playing Mings in as many games with Torres coming in so he didn't make the change in the summer either.

Yep, she's excellent. Aluko being dreadful has nothing to do with the fact she's a woman.  She's just utterly shit at her job, there are dozens of examples.

Her name blew up in punditry circles because of Bigot Barton's using her against women in the sport at the time (and strange he didn't state anything on Lucy Ward who has been one of the better pundits across the board). But as you point out, we have as many cliched or uninformed comments coming from the male pundits etc. However I don't think Hookey was picking her out because of her sex, and I hope he would have stated the same whoever said it.

I will add I don't like her for her politics, especially causing a load of bad publicity for our club during Covid time by accusing the public of being lazy for going on Furlough. I don't think I have ever called her up on her punditry though.

Think it might have been me, I was a few glasses of wine to the good though.

Yep, last post in the Cash thread. (You can tell he had a decent game as no one has posted anything in there since last night).

Third or fourth good game in a row for him as well, very welcome.

Lucy Ward has watched us so much in the last 18 months she's pretty much become one of us by osmosis.

I reckon it was about Gerard's own ego. He wanted to prove himself a big man by taking down an icon.

I think it's more likely that he just didn't really rate Mings and was going to phase him out of the team (hence the signing of Carlos), so wanted a club captain that he expected to be in the team more often than not.
