A leader is a leader.

Just because someone gives you a title it doesn’t make you the leader. And just because you’re not the ‘boss’ it doesn’t mean you can’t be a leader.
You are needed on LinkedIn.

Needs a photo of his staff smiling uncomfortably as he hands them a stale doughnut or something to go with it.

Or some anecdote about how he helped a homeless one legged veteran who he was casually chatting to outside his local Costa.

After getting up at 5am, doing some yoga, learning a new language and doing an hour in the gym.

I'm going to post my motivational morning routine on there:

Alarm goes off at 7am.
Ignore it, scratch nuts, go back to sleep
Pretend not to hear one year old shouting from his cot, give wife "accidental" nudge.
7.30am, tell myself "5 more minutes" then get up at 7.50
Check various websites on phone
Make mental list of what needs to be done today, knowing full well it'll be the same list tomorrow

Gerrard is doing what he thinks is best for the Villa team. Whether he has got this right or wrong remains to be seen, but the value of a player's media statements don't and shouldn't play a part in his thinking.

Exactly.

Ming's character is probably too large for SG.
SG has gone after Mings to show them who's in charge.
It was indicated pretty clear early on that the captaining was up for grabs.
Why was it necessary to make that public? This is clearly a power move.
It was undermining towards Mings, but perhaps, as with Smith,
Mings's questioning of the coaching and manager on issues, or taking feedback to improve or focus on football, caused an issue.
For TM is not just a footballer he's a  figurehead in society and an
influence outside of football.

McGinn will be eternally grateful and is the suppsoedly character that illsutrates what the manager wants on the pitch.
On the other side we have Mings he's more of a modern day footballer/person/human and non typical general footballer who has a opinion and voice and healthy interests outside of football
Look at how threatened thousands of blokes in Leeds, Yorkshire are by Mings so they abuse him.

Six months of analysis of Ming's leadership has resulted in him being stripped of captaincy and given far fewer responsibilities at the club,
without even a vice captain role.
Its a status thing and the responsibility has diminished.

Mings being relieved of his responsibilities is a blow, and I don't think
Gerrrad believes the club is big enough to have him and Mings competing for SG's spotlight.

And now Premier League players will stop the pre-match anti-racism gesture of taking the knee before every match.
Premier League captains took the decision after consulting with players.
The gesture will instead be seen before certain rounds of games, including the Boxing Day fixtures and cup finals.

Players and staff will also take the knee before the first and last matches of the 2022-23 campaign as well as dedicated No Room for Racism match rounds in October and March.

When Mings explained things about this gesture, he was spot on.
And I hope Mings isn't silenced into not commenting on this if
he feels compelled to do so.
I believe SG wants the focus to be on football.
Though this is debatable because footballers are not judged solely by
their performance on the field.

The bottom line is that I believe Ming's days are numbered.
Furthermore to me it will either be Mings or SG not here by next season.
Let us not forget that he is not a Gerrard acquisition.
Neither is McGinn, and neither has been consistent in standards of playing and all the yellow cards.
I wish Mings the best of luck this season and if it doesn't work out with Gerrard he may come again to the fore under a new coach here or elsewhere only time will tell.

Mings needs to concentrate more on his game and cut out the stupid mistakes which he usually gifts to the opposition in every game. Take the responsibilities off he and he can focus on his own game and seek to improve his own performance.

Whilst I know I'm still not convinced about Gerrard, I also know this is a load of bollocks. There's no way on earth this is down to his character, but will be more about his level of performance and consistency on the field.

We get that you're still pining for Deano, and will never like Gerrard, but making up blatant rubbish is a step too far. Where has Gerrard suggested even once that Mings shouldn't be allowed to voice his opinions on anti-racism or similar?

SG looked at all the players to give fair opportunity to have the honour.
Seems like the loudest and joker in the pack got the job.
We can't say it's McGinn performance or explempary discipline record.
Many different reasons.
Yet McGinn appointed due to 6 months analysis of his character.
And 10 days before season gives the armband hoping others adapt.

I loved having Mings as a captain.  As an individual , I thought he was the best captain we’ve had in a long time. An absolute role model, who speaks very well off the field about a whole range of issues. His public response to losing the captaincy made me more proud to have him here.

But if losing the captaincy makes him more consistent, then I’m all for it. I believe he is a very good player, but he does have that annoying mistake in him too regularly. And he will be as much of a leader without the armband than he has been with it. So
I understand Gerrards rationale.

Ive been a supporter of Mings, both player and person, but Footy, you can’t make the statement that the stripping of the captaincy is about his personality being bigger than Gerrards. You’ve written this as a statement of fact and have absolutely no evidence to back it up.

A straw poll on here at the end of last season, would no doubt have McGinn as the biggest under performer (from the regulars). Yet he was rewarded with the captaincy. It's one of a number of unnecessary moves from Gerrard since he joined.

Mings was making those annoying mistakes with or without the captaincy previously. Happy to be proven wrong but I suspect last season his unforced errors leading to goals/xG stat was quite low compared to the two previous when Grealish was captain. I've no issue if for footballing reasons Gerrard thinks Carlos will be a better player and help us progress. It's rewarding McGinn that beggars belief for me.

Yep, far comment. My point was more about Mings losing it, than giving it to McGann. Who I thought was generally poor last year

I think it's really simple.  Mings is no longer first choice left CB.   McGinn although captain from the outset, better get his act together or he will be dropped as well.
