Connection to site not secure
« on: December 05, 2018, 07:22:17 PM »
I have a warning flash up on both my mobile (Samsung S8+ on Chrome), and my PC (also Chrome) when accessing the site.

Anyone else getting this warning?

I've got it bookmarked in Chrome, and that connects to https.
If I start typing and select H&V from the suggested drop-downs, that takes me to http.

Stick an 's' in the address, and never, ever, ever log out.

I'm using Chrome on Android, and first noticed it about a month ago, I think it was.

I am getting the warning on all platforms.
I have typed s into the address but it is still showing as not secure, this is on Chrome. and Edge. IE opens without the s but there is no obvious warning.
There is a warning on my Samsung S7.

I don't think it is anything to be concerned about. Can I have your bank account details and your Mother's maiden name so I can look into it for you?

It means that any communication between you and this site is in clear text and in theory could be seen by anyone that captures the communications.   As opposed to secure encrypted traffic which is encrypted both ways and can only be translated by the requester and the receiver (your device and the website you are accessing).

Easy way to tell is if the site you are accessing has "http" at the start it is not encrypted, if it has "https" it is encrypted (the "S" is for secure).

There's a Chrome extension that does this - switches to https automatically.

I have now ( l think ) been able to edit all the non http:// links that are in the forum. These were preventing the padlock from appearing at the start of the address line, despite the site/server having a certificate. I have run a couple of scan programs and they are not showing anymore links that would affect it.

The Firefox security warning that images and videos were not secure (even when using https) has now disappeared. Nice one.
