Sad news - I was always impressed by the effort he made to still travel to support the team even when the club and he were ailing.

Very sad.  Like him or loathe him, he had the clubs interests at heart.  RIP.

Sad yes, but Doug always put his interests first.

Sad news. He looked very frail the other week, but still attending the game.

Maybe rest in peace.

RIP Doug.  A larger than life character of a type sadly missing from the game today.

4 pages and you’ve summed it up for me perfectly.

There will be many who disagree but for me growing up and following the team in the late 90’s and onwards who was Aston Villa.

Of the many memories, I smiled to myself at the vision of him stepping out to shake a clearly pissed off Abramovich,s hand

RIP Doug.
Shame he couldn’t see us back in the premieeership.

I sincerely hope he is shown full respect, even by his detractors.

One of the last of the old school football club owners - local business men done relatively well - before it turned into a billionaire's game.

End of a football era.
