I don't understand what the issue with him being in the gym in his day off was.

He looked pained at QPR when trying to run without the ball. Hope we haven't signed a crock.

There wasn’t . It was more around if he was trying to put in extra work to get himself fit it was the biggest non workout you ever saw, my five year old daughter puts in more effort .When she plays football it looks like she’s putting in more effort than him too at the moment.

Maybe,  possibly, he was told by the physios to do some light training to keep ticking over until he was back at Bodymoor. None of us are fitness experts and none of us know what's best for a player the day after a match.

How much work can you really do in the gym on your own?

If you're doing gym work you need the supervision of a coach or the pressure to excel of a class or a team chipper for the WOD to count.

The physio had him doing a specific warm up half time. He also stamps his foot deliberately after a delivery. He's being nursed.

I like how it's gone from him having a 'light workout' to it now being the 'biggest non-workout' anyone has ever seen.

£70k a week for a player who has to be nursed.  Says It all about post MON spending on players really.

Are we actually paying him £70k a week though or is that just a figure that's been plucked out of the air?

Christ...if a player needs to be nursed to get the best out of him, then nurse him.

If it's £700 a week I would expect a player in a Villa shirt to be more like Milner and less like Downing.

Downing was quite good for us, and also took a while to get to full fitness. When he did, if was worth the wait. The main downside of his play was his constant chickening out of tackles, but I've seen no evidence of that from Bolasie.

Nor I.  I was making the point about Downing's physical condition.  When we were a Premiership side with several top class players we could afford to play the long game with potentially valuable players.  Now we are a fixture in the middle of the Championship we do not have the luxury of giving potentially good players extensive periods of time to be of value to us.

We signed him at the end of August. His fitness then must've been awful - how did he pass a medical? A third of the season gone and still not fully fit over 2 months later? Bad decision making on transfers still prevails at the club.

Perhaps he is good company for Richards .....laughing all the way to the bank ...... I read that Collins is also injured - however I presume we are not paying him ...are we????
