Was it last season against Wigan that we were pretty rubbish and Grealish stuck one in in injury time from 25 yards?

You'd think they'd learn.

My Rangers friends (they’re actually sound) reckon we’ve got a steal with McGinn. Their summary was a young Scott Brown but better. The “bad news” is he’ll be at Villa for 2 years before we sell him for 20m. 😢
I can’t believe that. That you have Rangers supporting friends😂 on McGinn he could as good as Pat McMahon. Possibly the best debut since Dion Dublin.

Never as good as Pat McMahon!

I was cheered up pre-match when I heard Pat Nevin say we had one of the best deals of the summer. He reckons there were two Scottish players who could walk into the premier league - McGinn and Tierney (sp?).

That was December 2016. A glorious goal.

Didn't attend the game as I was at Lord's watching Villa fan Chris Woakes' magnificent performance.

My brother tells me it was a great game for the neutrals, but he was sorely vexed by our central defence. He also used a lot of scurrilous invective which I will not repeat here at the risk of offending our more sensitive members.

Fucking great day!

McGinn reminded me of Ray Houghton at times today

How many times does Bruce have to pick Jedi at centre back before he understands he is a liability there, why can't he use players in their right position? a centre back and someone to lead the line and I think we can do it this season.

Yes eventually as you just can’t beat an injury time winner but you should have seen me sitting there with my head in my hands after Jedi nicely set up Nick Powell😡

It was the same for me at the Shed Utd game just before Christmas. Haha

I think a lot of  people agreed with team selection before the game. Those who were generally poor on Monday were left out.

Jedinek can't play left centreback & keeper certainly didn't command his area. McGinn was excellent.

We need a left footed centre half & a centre forward.

Too many changes. New keeper plus new CB pairing plus new RB plus switching RB to LB plus two new central midfielders

Always likely to breed instability surely?

He is an odd one sometimes Bruce. He barely rotated last season. This time we're only a week into the season and had 5 days between games.

Hopefully there'll be a striker and left back and ideally winger in the squad by the time we play Ipswich

But if tuanzebe isn't coming in as first choice we might need a CB instead as jedinak keeps costing us at CB

Dodgy defence, but still managed to get 3 points, great debut by the Scottish Zidane, him and Jack could rip this league up. Kodja I thought had a better second half, but still not the player of two years ago, all clamouring for Green but he has to get himself involved, or Bruce has the perfect excuse for not giving the kids more game time and he will use it.
But 3 points are 3 points, 6 on the board long way to go.

A great win Villa! Turning 1 point into 3 at the death is what we need to do, if we want to be auto promotion contenders, something we couldn't do last season with too many draws. 6 points from 2 games is encouraging bearing in mind it took us 6 games to achieve this at the start of last SSN. A great debut by Mcginn and Hourihane's ball into Thor was brilliant.
Bruce as an ex defender needs to sort out his defence (Jedinak is not the answer!) Also he needs to start playing to the strength of his strikers because he hasn't really got a tune out of any of them since Kodjia's 19 goals.

Did anyone else get stuck in mad traffic near Aston Hall yesterday.  Looked like a massive wedding was happening there and people leaving it really snagged up the roads.  I never usually come that way to the ground and missed kick off as a result.

When 3/4 of your backline age playing out of position you know it’s not going to go smoothly.
Axel needs to be CB. Hopefully now De Laet is back we will see;
De Laet, Axel, Chester, Hutton/new left back

When I saw the changes I was really positive and felt they were correct. I thought Wigan were going to have a big Ariel threat so to replace Whelan with Jedi was spot on and would also help Tuanzabe in at CB. Pity Bruce didn't think the same way.
Very sloppy at times but credit for the balls to keep going and get the win so late

I thought he made too many changes personally and Jedinak should only be playing at centre half as a last resort, he was all over the place at times.

Wigan can feel a little hard done by but it's a good start for us even if again it wasn't very convincing.
