Tony Cascarino
« on: June 25, 2018, 01:13:14 PM »
Apologies if this has been mentioned as I've only just come across it but, Tony Cascarino is suffering from a brain tumour.  He's to undergo surgery on 19th of July.  I can't do links on an iPad but it's in the Irish Independent at independent.ie in an article by Paul Kimmage.

Apologies again if I have missed it and it's old news.  Anyway, get well soon Tone.

Fingers crossed for him. He didn't have the most successful spell at Villa, but it is clear from interviews that he retains an affection for the club and considers it a massive honour that we ever signed him.

Good luck Cascers.

Tony Cascarino reveals he will have brain surgery to remove a benign tumour

talkSPORT

1
Tony Cascarino has revealed he is to undergo surgery on a brain tumour.

The former Republic of Ireland international striker and talkSPORT presenter will have an operation after the World Cup to remove the tumour which, thankfully, is benign.

Cascarino revealed the news in his column in The Times, in which he urged others to get checked and not ignore the signs like he did.

He wrote:  “I was sent for an MRI scan and waited for the results. From the start, I was told it was probably an acoustic neuroma… a benign tumour that can be very small and grow very slowly.

“You can have them for years without knowing it. Mine is about the size of a golf ball, which is alarming when you think about it, but the benign bit was a huge weight off my shoulders and in that respect, I’m very lucky.

“Why am I writing about this? Logistics, firstly. After the World Cup, I’ll be having surgery and my rehabilitation could last for a couple of months, so I’ll be disappearing for a while.

“The second reason is far more important. My roles with The Times and talkSPORT give me a platform to say please, don’t be like me. In similar circumstances, get yourself checked.

“I understand now that I left it too long and the longer you leave anything, the bigger the risk.”

All at talkSPORT offer our best wishes to the Weekend Sports Breakfast co-host and look forward to having him back on the airwaves.

His punditry can grate at times, doesn't offer much insight but comes across as a likeable fella. Haven't got round to reading his book, (he and his ghost writer, Paul Kimmage, sometimes appear on talk radio in Ireland together) - does he go into much detail of his time with us?
