I've done a bit of soul searching about how and why we failed.

Fulham got bought out by a proper billionaire but he made it clear they weren’t going to spend their way out of the division.  It’s taken them four years but it worked.  Their key was holding onto Cairney.  I fear for us if we don’t hold onto Grealish.

The key was selling a past it McCormack to us.

They've done it the way I want us to do it. Promoted youngsters to the squad like Sessegnon, signed good value players from other championship clubs Cairney (Blackburn) McDonald (Wolves) and used the loan market very well as doubt they'd have made it without Mitrovic's goals.

They now have a team good enough to stay in premier league.

With the next ownership we have to go down the sustainable route.

Which brings us neatly back to the question of Steve Bruce. Is he capable of doing what Jokanovic achieved at Fulham? Personally I think the answer is no.

The most worrying issue for me isn't about him trying to sell up, it's the thought of him selling the club to someone even worse. He'll want as much of his money back as possible and let's be honest the decision making he has made has put the club on it's arse. Why will he suddenly be able to make good decisions. Worrying times, as anyone with any kind of business interest will aim to buy the club at a later date when the club is neck deep in the crap rather than now where it's merely waist high in crap.

Why make that assumption? A decent owner, with a good manager, could have us back in the prem in 2-3 years. We'll almost certainly have to take a hit this year and let a few of the more valuable players go to 'fix' our FFP status but if we take that as an opportunity to do a proper 'root and branch' fix I can see us being in a much stronger position next summer.

If you wait for us to be in administration (or at least days from it) with players already sold and things falling apart around us it could take years to get that cleanup work completed and get us in a position to start looking up rather than down.
