Randy Lerner was an absolute sack of crap to even put the club at risk like that. Sad excuse for a man.

The “fit and proper” test is a complete sham, and there needs to be more accountability at the higher levels for letting these things occur.

F Tony.

I wonder if Lerner still has that tattoo

Going off the podcast version:

Some investigative journalists as representatives of 3 wealthy Chinese businessmen.  Approached a chap called Samuelson, who's a type of fixer for buying football clubs and has been since the early 80s.  The conversation went roughly along the lines of:
"I want to buy a football club"
"OK, I can sort that out.  What about Derby County for £160m"
"Yeah, that sounds good.  The thing is I'm on the run from the Chinese government and want to launder a load of dirty money"
"No probs, if your 2 mates are clean then they can hold it in a trust fund so they'll have to pass the fit & proper persons test but you'll avoid it."
"They might be escaping the law too"
"Oh, well that's fine we'll just set up 20 trust funds each holding 5% of the shares, and so nobody will have a holding big enough to be assessed anyway"
"OK, cool"

I paraphrase a lot there, but you get the idea.  They very blatantly said that the guy was a criminal planning to use the club to launder money, and he didn't bat an eyelid.  In fact offered some of his other services in making that money a bit harder to trace ...

Then went on to say, in other words, that Dr Tony Shitshoes was probably just a front man and the money came from elsewhere.  Samuelson was involved in that deal too.  He's also involved with some pretty shady characters, incl. various Russian oligarchs and some serious gangster types down in That London.

I've always been in the blame Lerner camp. End of the day you have to be desperate enough to entertain these sort of people to sell to them and he was absolutely clueless about running a football club and not realising for most owners its a money pit. He acted like he was doing a football version of Brewster's millions basically handing out unbelievable contracts to all sort of bobbins and by the time he got rid of us he'd probably have sold to me if i'd turned up with a postal order. Bottom line is he's proof that even billionaires have fuckwits for children

Bloody hell, that's a thorough piece of work from Al Jazeera. I imagine Mr Samuelson has had some explaining to do to clients, and a lot of them will be the sort of people who are very unhappy at being named in stuff like that.

He'll be looking over his shoulder for a long time to come after this.

Considering how badly it nearly went, my thinking is that the real owner was............Legion ;) :)
