Rome

Unfortunately I’d booked to go on holiday when the play off final is on so will be in Rome (thank fuck they didn’t get to the Champs League final!) so wondered if anyone knows anything about good bars to see the match on TV in Rome? Any help or thoughts welcome. (and no I’m not going to fly back for the match)

I was in Rome with my Roman boss in 2001 (?) when Liverpool won the UEFA cup v Alaves, 5-4.  We watched it in a pub called Shamrock which was near the Coloseum so reasonably central. Apparently there are several Irish bars there now so am sure you would find alternative options.

A place I enjoyed going to for general food was called Gusto on Piazza Augustus Imperatore. Good basic Italian food downstairs and posher food upstairs. He took me to loads of older, out of the way wonderful restaurants too but sadly I can't recall any names.

Enjoy!

Scholars pub might be a good bet.  Centrally located and roomy inside with a big screen.

Thanks as long as there’s Irish pubs we shouldn’t go wrong. Will need to research as only arriving in Rome an hour or so before kick off so need to get the bags dumped at the hotel sharpish.

I found myself in exactly the same situation three years ago.

Last I was there my absolute favourite pizzeria (Ivo's in Trastevere) still had the football on, but that was a few years ago now.

There is a place called the Ship Ashore a few minutes walk of the Forum. Wasn’t the best but they had UK Sky

Does anyone know anywhere in Sydney? I realise it maybe impossible due to the 3am local time kickoff.

There's bound to be an Irish Bar in Sydney. They get them everywhere except Ireland.

I think there was a crackdown on bars opening after 1am, in Sydney ,a couple of years ago, it’s  not entirely hopeless  I’ve subscribed for a month on Benin tv 2 so will see the game on my laptop.

Tony, try the Star Casino. Plenty of sports bars and open 24/7.
