I can't help wandering how we would have felt at the start of the season about being guaranteed a play off place and still having a slim chance of automatic promotion with three games left. I suspect a lot of us would have taken that.

We were favourites to go up automatically and had the best squad on paper.

Play offs signal failure to me other than it gives us a "dogs chance" at winning promotion.

I have an ante post coupon from the week before the season started that has us as third favourites to win the league behind Wolves and Boro, so the bookies had us down for third place and the play offs rather than top two.
