Grealish worked tirelessly to shake off Gunnarsson's all night man marking and deserved that amazing goal.

Until Kodjia came on it was food and drink for Bamba and Morrison and his movement and skill really gave them something to think about and we earned the win.

I thought Cardiff were one of the best teams we played early in the season, but admittedly we were poor that day and they didn't have to resort to long ball muscular tactics. However, tonight they were at their route one spoiling tactics from the off: Morrison taking all throw ins in their half, wasting time and stealing 10 yards each time and Gunnarsson sending in the spinny long throws into the area that are designed to skew off her head for the second ball. They flood the wing areas with the 2 pacy players for the knock ons and clearances but I thought Jedinak and Chester generally read the tactic really well.

If only we'd got another 4 points or so from those games after Wolves...

Warnock "Villa thought they had won the world cup".

What a dick.

It's getting to him isn't it? He's trying to pretend it isn't but he can't hide it.

I've said before I don't mind Warnock but his side don't half play prehistoric football. I criticise SB for lack of imagination but at least we do string together a couple of decent moves a game, Cardiff didn't even bother to do that.

Still very much an outside chance for making it obviously, but that was about pride as well as showing we'd be a threat in the play-offs. Of course it was pretty hard work, but we have a guy with something that almost no-one else in the division has.

I think it was important to show Cardiff if they miss out on second they're going to have to work blooming hard to go up via the play offs with us in them.

I really think they'd struggle to get up for them given the lead they've had in second. Playing Cardiff in the final would be very good news for us I reckon although of course we have to win our tie and it could quite easily be Millwall.

Can somebody make sure Whelan never plays again for Villa?
lol as kidz wud sez. Wanker spoke about two very good chances his team had before HT. Idiot obviously forgot to mention those "chances"  were Whelan efforts not his team's.

Warnock was right. They should have been out of sight at half time. But who cares? A great night under the floodlights, a magnificent winner and 3 points.

Who got injured in the warm up btw?

Pretty sure Whelan wasn't supposed to be starting? Was Bree named as a sub? If he wasnt he did very well for a last minute call up when he came on.

Just watched the highlights and Johnstone's save off Whelan's glanced header looks even better than it did at the game.

Ah cheers. Was in the Upper Witton so actually thought he was coming on to play LB when Axel went off.

I saw this on ESPN's headlines with the caption: "Grealish winner gets royal seal of approval", and thought: Oh dang, John Carew!  He's considered football royalty now?"

Yeah, color me american.

I thought he played really well apart from nearly scoring 2 own goals.

I'll say it again, I love this.

How come he was there tonight? Any reason or did he just want to get behind his team?

I like William.
