No surprise Durham have took up option to bowl first.
Team: Ambrose, Barker, Bell, Hain, Patel, Rhodes, Sibley, Sidebottom, Stone, Trott & Wright.

Looks a strong side on paper.  Pretty crucial few weeks ahead for the Bears.

68 overs gone and off for bad  light
184/6
Trott 67*
Patel 10*

Think that will be it for the day....28 overs lost

When will Kent get a points Deduction? I've lost count of the number of times 17+ wickets taken on the first day. Today was 18 and they lost 20 overs to bad light.

It's a scandal if the pitch inspectors aren't called to Canterbury.

Blue skies over Birmingham this morning and no rain forecast for the next three days, so hopefully no more interruptions.

Bears are motoring along this morning, 295/8 with Wright and Stone currently sharing a 61 run partnership that's come at more than 5 an over.

Tail has made a really strong contribution with the bat again Paul.  Another quick 20-30 runs would be very handy.

Great performance by the Bears and Oli Stone who was taken 4 quick wickets, 152-3 to 169-7 in next to no time.

How come Hampshire have 3 overseas players in their team?  Steyn, Abbot and Fidel Edwards?

Isn't Abbott Kolpak

Abbot is a Kolpak. He retired from international cricket to take a higher salary at The Rose Bowl. Hampshire were offering more than the Saffers, which is incredible really. I imagine Edwards is also a Kolpak as he hasn’t played international cricket for several years thus leaving Steyn as the only “overseas” player.

A bit worried we might have let this get away from us. Looks like Sussex and Kent will both win so anything less leaves it back in the balance.
