Brookes is a brilliant prospect, he has it all. He'll be hurling them down at 90mph plus before the season ends.

It's not his pace that impresses me, it's his maturity. A few times a batsman has gone after him and instead of panicking and losing his shape he just sticks to a good length, varies the pace a little gets back some control, that's rare on guys in their early 20s let alone an 18 year old.  Doing this whilst bowling at high 80s is why he'll be an England regular before long. The brummie in me is a little upset that him and Hain are probably going to go the same way as Bell and Trott and we'll miss out on having them for a huge chunk of their careers.

Rob Key after the game last night was saying that he wouldn't wait too long to get Brookes in the England set up if he carries on his current form.  He said that there is no point having a talent like that being on the county circuit too long.

I agree completely, all that will happen if he spends 2-3 seasons in the county game is that he'll pick up bad habits which work in English conditions but leave him struggling in the sub-continent and Australia.  The very last thing he needs is to drop 2-3mph and concentrate on bowling long spells, 3-4 overs at a time at ~90mph is what he should be looking to provide and the county game just doesn't encourage bowlers to do that.

Pretty much what Rob Key was saying Paul and also added that a few seasons on the county circuit will only increase his chances of picking up injuries as well.

Yeah, the problem is that it's hard to get the counties to address this because it's going against their own interests. That's why i think England should be identifying players early and then managing their development centrally.

I turned off after the game but I'm not surprised Key can see the same risks, he's really good in that way, as an expert pundit and he was a very good captain whwn he played.

Yep, I've got a lot of time for Rob Key and I think he is always worth a listen.  I always thought he would have made a good ODI captain for England at a time when we were struggling in those formats of the game, but never really got that extended chance on the international scene.

OHD why ? Surely Wright Barker Rankin Sidebottom would be better options.

Good to see the 3 best sets of bowling figures came from young English bowlers in Brown & Barnard for Worcs and Brookes for Warwick.

Please, please let Worcs finally make finals day :-)

Joe Denly of Kent had quite a good day. Scored a century and then took a hat trick. Dan Christian also scored a century off 37 balls for Notts. I know that Blast isn’t to everyone’s taste but those two achievements are remarkable regardless of the format.
