Steve Bruce - January Manager Of the Month
« on: February 09, 2018, 07:25:29 AM »
I know there are two Steve Bruce threads but surely this deserves its own thread.
It’s been such a long time since we received one of these.

I have been one one his biggest critics, but well done to Steve Bruce...thoroughly deserved.
Hopefully it a little bit of a lift for him during a sad and difficult time.

Fair play to him, has got us winning again and more consistently than in nearly 30 years. There is a long way to go though yet so as Kippax says above I hope this doesn’t jinx the 7th win in a row.

Still, nice to have some positive news rather than the usual negativeness we have all been used to over the last 5 years.

Who was the last manager to win one of these whilst managing us? MON?

Exactly what I thought - is it still a jinx like it used to be ?

I don’t know, but I’m sure when John Gregory or Sir Brian won it in the past we followed it with a defeat. May just be bad memory though.

I’m pretty sure that there was a period of time in the Orem when the manager of the months teams lost the next game quite a few times though, hence the “curse” of being manger of the month.

Maybe a loads of cobblers though!

Also let's be honest. We all know it's Steve Agnew deserves an award for our January form.

I don't know how much notice manager's take of these kind of awards but it's a nice bit of news for him in what's been a crap couple of weeks for him personally.

He is ultimately responsible for the teams results. On the back of 6 straight victories it is well deserved.

Yes he takes the stick when its bad, so fair play to him.

Does he though? I never once heard him say "It's my fault, I accept the blame for that result" when we lost. What I do recall is his repeated indigence at people calling for his head when we went 5 games without a win at Christmas.

Don't get me wrong. He deserves the award this month, at least when compared to the rest of the Championship, and I recognize he's had a torrid week on a personal basis. He has my utmost sympathy, and I don't dislike him. But I don't think he's always faced the criticism well when we've had bad runs.

His Dad would have been proud, I'm sure he was anyway.

What about player of the month, surely one of Hogan, Snodgrass or Freakish walked away with this unless it was some flighty Fulham lad?

Don't worry it's only the Blues next. What could go wrong?
