Pretty poor overall, but a very good result in the end and a great goal to win it.  Thought Johnstone, Chester and Terry played very well (Johnstone easily MoM for me) and the rest were all a bit of a mixed bag really.  Thought Davis and Onomah added a bit when they came on and would think about starting the latter on Saturday in place of Hourihane.

Minor point, but we definitely need some more variety on the bench.  Taylor and Axel cover the defensive options, but there is literally no point having both Jedinak and Whelan on there as I can't see a scenario where both would come on.  If fit enough, Green should be on there instead of one of those to offer us a bit of pace in the final stages.

Thought I heard the presenter mention before the game that a member of Steve Bruce's family was unwell, so I wish them all the best if that is the case.

What’s remarkable about that picture is something that is (or should be) unremarkable for other clubs. The players clearly care that they won today. Long may it continue

Alex Bruce alluded to it being a very difficult couple of days for Steve so rings true.

There is a togetherness and spirit we have not seen for a long old time in the group at the moment.

Not having a Green and O'Hare on the bench seemed odd though. You will never need Jedi and Whelan and Tuanzebe.

Yes that did raise an eyebrow, Taylor to cover the full backs, tuanzabe to cover CH and DM, Onamah for midfield and Davis should have left us two other attacking options from the bench. Mind it seems churlish to moan after such a great win.

89-90

Man Utd 3-0
Arsenal 2-1
Chelsea 3-0
Charlton 2-0
Southampton 2-1
Sheff Wed 1-0
Tottenham 2-0

Remember beating Spurs and thinking we were going to win the league. Next game lost 3 Nil to the Wombles at hom. Platt missed a pen I recall

First game I truly remember as a kid. I had been to quite a few games before then, I was 7,but this was the first I can shut my eyes and still watch back. I was sitting in the Trinity looking across pitch as the rain came down and I felt so miserable. 0-3 on the old scoreboard. They should bring them back to grounds, they were way better than these big old screens they have now. I think that was when I knew I was Villa through and through, and I wanted to be David Platt. Sadly there have been many more games like that since.

That Snograss fist pump in front of our fans warms my heart. It's been a long time since we've had winners fighting for the club.

UP THE VILLA.

I took my very young twin sons to that match. They sat each side of me and cried. Thirty odd years later they still remember it vividly. Football, eh?

Just saw the highlights.  Time to bust out the old "75% of the world is covered by water, the rest is covered by Sam Johnstone" memes.

The thing I remember most about the 3-0 defeat to Wimbledon was that only 29,000 were there to see us possibly go 5 points clear at the top. Who’d have thought 30 years later we’d get more supporters turning up to see us get relegated!
It’s a strange world.

I just hope we don’t get too cocky going into the games against Burton and Small Heath. I’m sure Bruce will have them right mentally for them though.
I hope we are cocky and demolish them both without mercy.

Haha.

Being in that away end tonight when the goal went in is precisely why we torment ourselves week in, week out for years on end in the hope that we experience moments like that, and when we do...

Is it our first smash and grab, last gasp 1-0 win since Gardner's shot was fumbled by Schwarzer(?) and Weimann pounced to give us 3 points against Fulham, which probably kept us up that season. Messed up my colleague's accumulator - Villa draws a banker all too often in our boring years.

Just got back, and all i can say is, we are going up! The players reaction at the end showed the confidence they have, and the belief thats now gathering momentum. Classic away performance, chuffed!"
