Shocking, unbelievable. Loved him in his prime at West Brom and more so when he joined us he was simply unstoppable. A brut of a man on the football pitch and when I met him in person at a function a few years ago a gentle giant. RIP big man.

The wife and her family knew him and his family. They’re all gutted, he was a lovely bloke apparently, although that seems obvious even if you didn’t know him. He was absolutely adored by the black community in Handsworth where his kids went to school, such a great role model.

Great player, still can’t fathom why BFR didn’t take him with him to Man Utd, he would have been great for them.

Terrible news. Met him in a club in Manchester in 1980 after he had played for England v USA game at Old Trafford. Lovely guy to talk to, who seemed genuinely interested in other people. RIP Cyrille.

I think Albion dug their heels in after already losing Robson and Moses to BFR and United. It is a well used phrase but how many caps would he have won if he was playing in this era?

Of his goals I remember the chip Vs Forest in 92 and the volley Vs Oldham. There was also a rocket Vs Southampton at home he absolutely fired into the North Stand goal. This was the season I had my one and only season ticket so him and Yorke were the two stars of that side, the nucleus of which finished second in the premier league the next year.

This was the season I had my one and only season ticket so him and Yorke were the two stars of that side, the nucleus of which finished second in the premier league the next year.

The one I remember most for us was in the game when we came from two down to win 5-2 at Spurs. And the iconic goal of the season for Albion against Norwich in the cup. I think he got a couple of good ones at Hillsborough in the quarter final when Coventry won the cup.

I loved his flying header against Coventry on the last day of  the 1991/92 season.
