Whilst a win is welcome we should remember they had a poor second choice keeper in goal after their first choice was red carded against wolves on Saturday.

Fuck me I thought we obviously did well to score 5. Another shit performance😥

You're fooling yourself, mate. We were just desperately lucky.

If Bristol City had a completely changed first team, let's say a combination of the best players from Man City, Barcelona and Paris St Germain, it would have been a different story.

Lucky, lucky, Villa.

Maybe this will stop the mad hysteria! 😁

It's just one match. Consistency of this performance is required for the rest of the season

Only bought the tickets on the day but excellent game - my 6 year old loved it and kept going on about Grealish and still is this morning - wants a poster. The first 15 or 20 minutes were woeful but we didn't really look back although it was fortunate they didn't bury their chance right after half time to bring it back to 2-1.

It's nice to go to VP and feel a bit of optimism and we need it - first 15 mins all you could hear were Bristol fans "is this a library" "your support is fucking shit" etc etc. Makes me realise how beaten down we've become over the years - so used to disappointment and poor performances. I really hope the wider management team at Villa get this and realise that with a bit of positive attacking football it doesn't take much to galvanise the fans. Putting up posters talking about "pride" achieves fuck all unless we see it on the pitch from the players.

Hopefully this is the season turning point and we can push on but great result - even a couple of villa fans in the Chinese takeaway on the way home were asking about the game when they saw our scarves. This is the thing about Villa - so many people support us and would come if the football was positive.

Only seen the goals. How was Hogan in open play, did he link up better once he’d had a confidence boost from the goal, or take people on? Having never noticed him for Brentford, and only seen him out of sorts for us, I still don’t really know what kind of player he is.

Very lively, constantly on the shoulder of the last man and making runs the midfield were too slow to spot.

We obviously made a conscious tactical decision to attack down the wings and I'm not going to criticise that given the scoreline but it did generally lead to the midfield only looking sideways for a pass. Had they looked forward Hogan was finding loads of space which is hardly a surprise up against an incredibly pedestrian Nathan Baker who we all know is very prone to switching off positionally.

Absolutely, it is probably the only reason we won and I am sure you will show similar consideration to any side with important players unavailable, such as their best centre half plus their top scorer from last season.

Just not getting too carried away after a good result. If we’re going to push until the end of the season we need to get a striker in. Hogans header was our first goal by a striker since Kodjias penalty in September!

This is the same shite keeper that was man of the match when they beat Man Utd the other week.

There are some earlier in the thread and there will be extended ones on YouTube later, just search the fixture and scoreline.

I don't think we should read anything into it being their reserve keeper, it was just a very good performance against a side that looked tired and we took advantage.  That's just what we should be doing, having a squad with the depth and quality we do is only a benefit if you use it, why we're using it is a different matter but the simple fact is that we can afford to have 8-9 injured players and still be a very strong side.

Lovely back heel by Beckenbaker to set up the fifth

It was Baker's best game for the Villa!!

He’s very overrated Ad@m. He’s a decent player at this level but no more than that. He was pulled out of position all game and how does little Hogan our jump him. I like the guy but from a talent standpoint he’s not a huge miss.

Maybe my post was misinterpreted.

I always thought he was bang average, so it was nice to see him playing for the opposition.  His passing certainly hasn't improved since he left the Villa - he made more passes to Villa players tonight than he ever did in a Villa shirt.

No I understood it and completely agree. I never understood the fuss over him. Yes agree bang average and at 26 he’s not going to get any better. So I’m glad he’s getting regular football but I’m equally glad it’s not for us.

I'm a bit confused I'm reading Baker is a good championship player, Baker is a decent player at this level. Have I missed something are we playing Cup football every week where we are actually a Premier League team or are we at the level where people are saying Baker is good at. Let's not rewrite history here Baker was a member of what was one of the best defences last season so let's not try and make out as if we were leaking goals constantly last season.

Anyway in other news fantastic result let's hope we can really push on from here.
