I didn't know if I was dreaming the way it just kept on getting better. Someone will need to peel me down from the ceiling at the end of the night!

Lovely back heel by Beckenbaker to set up the fifth

It was Baker's best game for the Villa!!

Half my prediction was right. Said we would ‘click’ and that we did. Jack was unplayable.

He’s very overrated Ad@m. He’s a decent player at this level but no more than that. He was pulled out of position all game and how does little Hogan our jump him. I like the guy but from a talent standpoint he’s not a huge miss.

Maybe my post was misinterpreted.

I always thought he was bang average, so it was nice to see him playing for the opposition.  His passing certainly hasn't improved since he left the Villa - he made more passes to Villa players tonight than he ever did in a Villa shirt.

Just got back, great performance after a poor 15 minutes. Great attacking football. Hogans goal was class & nice to see some good substitutions. UTV.

No I understood it and completely agree. I never understood the fuss over him. Yes agree bang average and at 26 he’s not going to get any better. So I’m glad he’s getting regular football but I’m equally glad it’s not for us.

Really didn't fancy us today and wasn't looking forward to the drive after a heavy night.  Bruce was giving Hogan hell after about 15 mins for his positioning.  Seemed to the trick!  Enjoyed that as much as the Sunderland 6-1 in lamberks era.  HNY all villans

Just got back. It makes all the travel worthwhile when we stick 5 past any team. I have to get up at five for work but couldn't care less!

Disagree entirely.

We looked a mess defensively last season until he came in and slotted in alongside Chester, pretty much from his first game back v Reading away. That was the catalyst for our decent run. His form was good enough that many (possibly the majority on here) seen the signing of Terry as unnecessary at the time (I'm still not entirely convinced that was our best use of £60k per week, considering our shortcomings in other areas, but that's by the bye).

His distribution has always been a bit meh, but with something approximating coaching he might have been able to boost that up to at least competent.

He had a Cahill tonight, but his form for Brizzle has been decent this season by all accounts.

Brilliant, probably the best performance since the semi final and Jack today played like he did in that match, class. Of all the players we have bought in this season, I reckon, apart from Whelan,  Snodgrass has been the most disappointing, but today he was superb. Terry back soon all good news.

Like a former great England striker once said, it's a funny old game.

Agree with all of that. What a difference two wins has made, I was about to jump off the bridge after Brentford.

My biggest problem with selling Baker was that it meant there was no back-up for Terry and Chester. By the sound of things though, Elphick might just becoming the player Bournemouth fans led us to believe he was. Good to see others starting to look the part too like Hogan, Snodgrass and Barney.

Adomah hasn't scored for a few games but his assists tally must be mounting up. Some lovely crosses from him lately.

Grealish was superb, comfortable on the ball coupled with a willingness to work his socks off as he showed tonight is what we have been missing. If he stays injury free he will rip up this league.

Hutton and Adomah stood out also. In fact they all played well. More than anything though tonight sent out a statement to the rest that we mean business.

The first twenty minutes, I thought we were awful, we looked like we had spent the xmas break eating and drinking. Then we score and what a change. Confidence running through the team, we looked lively and like we were going for the jugular.

Grealish was absolutely unplayable tonight. What he needs is a run of 6-10 games in that position, give him a chance to establish himself and not dump him out the team the first time he struggles. We saw tonight what he is capable of.

Other shout outs - Hourihane who works so hard and covers so much grass, Snodgrass, Hutton (who I think had one of the best games I've ever seen him have for us), and Hogan - you could see how happy the others were for him when he scored.

A great way to start the new year.
