He just didn’t need to play two defensive midfielders today. But that’s Bruce for you. He’s gone 4-5-1 essentially, or 4-2-3-1 possibly.

I fear we will surrender possession in the middle and they will push us back all game. Brentford like to keep the ball and we do a great job giving it away. Let’s see how we start the game. If we start whacking long balls up to him it will be shit all round. If we try and keep possession and pass it through to him we have a chance. Bruce has failed massively every time he’s picked Hogan to find the best way to use him. Not saying Hogan hasn’t been at fault too, but it comes down to the manager. And certainly when it is the manager who spent close to £10m to bring him to the club.
