I love it and if we go up this season then the song will remain in our memories as a symbol of when Villa began the long road back. When I know we're going to win I look forward to hearing it being played and savouring the happiness around me.

I don't imagine it will get sung with much gusto when we've just been done 4-0 at home by Man City.

But more when we've done them 4-0.

We are going to put in one of our more decent performances then?!

I admire your optimism Drummond, but hopefully Oasis will sound a bit old hat by the year 2033! ;)

In any case, the song works well now, but playing it after a game against a team from Manchester would be slightly embarrassing, especially when the band are known to be big supporters of Man City.

Embarrassing for them if we win!

It came about spontaneously, it suggests that we're moving forward and forgetting the recent troubles. It seems to fit, and every fucker knows it which helps.

Keep it.
I like it. Seems popular with the fans yesterday. Hope we have cause to regularly repeat it at full time.

My thoughts exactly.

Any attempts to manufacture an 'anthem' for us have been met with indifference or outright hostility in the past. And a good thing too, we won't be told what to sing and when by The Man.

DLBIA came about after Reading away; though it seemed to capture our mood more than theirs.

The lyrics are mostly bollocks (as most Gallagher songs are) but the ending chimed with the  support base back then, and still does now, it seems.

When we're dicking Real Madrid away in the Champions League in a few years, we might nab some of their songs ( or the scarf swinging over the head the Spaniards seem to go in for - always liked that).

Until then, the current one is quite OK.

I haven’t read the entire thread but in case nobody’s made the point before, Rogers & Hammerstein musical Carousel has naff all to do with Liverpool but YNWA seems to do ok for them.

We'd get the thoughtful whistling tune which is what we get now after a non victory.

If it means I can get out of the ground quicker, the rest of you can continue to stand around and sing this horrible dirge

I've resigned myself to it now. Other people seem to enjoy it so maybe I should stop being a misery arse. I was first to the pub and managed to get a seat so no complaints.

That's just it. If people are enjoying it, irrespective of the roots of the song, let them enjoy it. So what if it's Oasis and they love Man City. I like Oasis and I like the song and I don't care on bit for Man City. This one has become a bit of a unifier in some respects as it almost speaks to eliminating the difficult memories, pain and hurt of the last number of years. I know I've felt it from afar, let alone those fans who have been to Villa Park or traveled with the club.
