I saw this from Trinity Road behind the dugouts as an 11 year old after a 'Villa Cubs' event at the Leisure Centre.
Villa were probably on the slide by now compared to the League Championship and European Cup winning days, although we could still hold our own at home.
Just short of 20,000 for this although a decent winner from Steve McMahon.
I was a thirteen year old on The Holte (as usual) that day and Steve McMahon was my favourite player at that point. I think people forget how good he was for a couple of years in a fading Villa team. As for not meeting your heroes, Steve McMahon is a prime example. Unlike SGT, Brian Little, Tony Morley, Gary Shaw, Gordon Cowans and Paul McGrath who were all fantastic when I met them at various points. Also Mark Bosnich, Dion Dublin and Lee Hendrie are nice blokes.
I have to admit I also found Tony Coton to be a nice guy when we met in Tenerife years back.
