I overheard someone who knows nothing about football said

"Nice gesture but is that all they have given, its not much is it considering the money they are on"

I think it was inspired more by the image is that in the week Sanchez is reported to be getting almost half a million £'s per week people think all footballers are on that sort of wage.

Fair play to anyone who gives irrespective of their income

The Holte Tweets on Twitter have suggested that as there will be 42k attending the Blues game everyone donates £1 each.
Nice idea but I'm not sure how to implement it.

Does anyone know if there is a Just Giving page for the cause?

They lived next door to me until recently, and still own the house. Lovely family, and he's a proper little fighter who idolises the Villa.

It's hard to justify a footballer earming hundreds of thousands of pounds per week, but that's what the market (such as it is) dictates and we all contribute to it.  It's not up to footballers to cure all of society's ills.  There's also the fact that half of that wage will be going in tax, which still leaves a lot, but is still a pretty big take for the tax man.

Currently on £13,764 of his £250,000 target (I assume that total doesn't include any of the pledge from the player's £20,000)
