I reckon I must have been to Selhurst Park ten to twelve times and that is the only time I have seen us win there. I should have guessed it was a bogey ground on my first visit when Charlton practically relegated us on Easter Monday.

That was a great game. We were on a really good run, Saunders had recently arrived and was scoring for fun and then Dalian. This was the third game I took my then girlfriend to (the other two being the 5-2 win at White Hart Lane and a two nil win v Everton at VP). She said afterwards that football was boring.

Brings back memories of the radio phone ins when Villa fans would ring up, I think it was Tom Ross, just to shout ''Deeeeeeeeeeaannooooooo'' down the phone.

Great team, likeable players, good times.

That makes me feel old! I'm sure we won the week before or week after at Middlesbrough by the same score? The same scorers as well I think - Saunders 2, Atkinson 1.

I think you are right. I think they were back to back away games and back to back 2-3 victories.

It's also then 25 years to the day that I bought Automatic for the People from Andy Cash Records on Kingsbury Circle, about 2 minutes before the goal.

Frightening. I loved that album.

Yes you are spot on. Deano's first four games were Leeds (a) D 1-1, Liverpool (h) W 4-2, Middlesbrough (a) W 3-2 and Wimbledon (a) W 3-2. In fact I think we were unbeaten in 12 or 13 at that time although the run started before that Leeds game when we stuffed Palace 3-0 at home. This was the match when Ron went out on the pitch with the microphone to say we were signing Deano.

I was at the Palace game with MC BFR on da mike and of Deano's first four games I only missed the Boro game. If I recall correctly he had the ball in the net at Leeds which was ruled out for offside. Didn't Lonely Boy score a late equaliser for Leeds?
