The Murdoch rag unfortunately.  Dwight's company is Dwight Yorke Promotions and has listed assets of £2.

No insolvency proceedings currently listed at Co House but there is a voluntary strike off application

It is pretty clear that articles in the Sun, Birmingham Mail and 90min.com over the course of the past few days referencing Dwight Yorke Promotions Limited are misleading, and the result of shoddy journalism as, indeed, is the title of this thread.

What is misleading about it?

I have amended the title in the light of the application for voluntary liquidation having now been withdrawn.

What? Ex footballer demonstrates ineptitude in the real world and has financial problems? ... there's no story here, is there?

It's not a real story at all. They're trying to make it look like he's down to his last £2, when that's just the share capital of the company that he wants to wind up.

It doesn't mean anything as it might not be worthwhile to keep it open not gone bust.

It's a pretty basic lack of understanding from the journalists concerned, isnt it?

I know a number of people who have wound up their companies for various reasons and they all have a lot more cash in the bank than I have. Sticking it in the name of your wife and kids appeared to be a good plan a few years back (not that I am an expert or even pretending to be). It appears that Dwight Yorke has narrowly avoided going bust, but who knows what assets he has and where they are. I am sure he will have taken expert financial and legal advice. He also proposed to my cousin Emma once in the 1990's when he lived next door to her. She said no and I have never forgiven her.

The share capital of a company can have nothing to do with its financial health.

For example, two people, say Dave Woodhall and Silhillvilla, set up a detective agency as equal partners, that company can have share capital of £2, two £1 shares, 1 owned by each, and a bajillion pounds in the bank.

They are unconnected, which is why suggesting Yorke is skint because his company has two quid 'in the bank' is a load of nonsense.
