Uganda must be handy if they can take on both Sao Taome and Principe at the same time and beat both, keeping two clean sheets in the process. Surprising that they haven't qualified for Russia.

Don't mock. I understand that if the Qatar authorities don't get their act together in time for 2022 Sao Taome and Principe is the plan B.

It's the sort of place you only know exists if you collected stamps as a child.

That's nothing. Scotland once took on all of the Faroe islands and did not lose. That's 18 clean sheets.

When I was a kid my mum and two of my aunts worked for Stanley Gibbons for a short time. I had several stamp albums and loads of stamps that I wasn't interested in whatsoever. They are probably still in my parents loft untouched from the day I was given them.

Bloody hell, that brings back memories long buried. Many of the comics and popular newspapers had adverts advocating you could "send off" for an stamp album, magnifying glass and selection of international postage stamps "on approval".

Knowing the meaning of the word philatelist has proved o be useful on occasion when completing cryptic crosswords.

I remember buying a set of stamps in 1966 commemorating the Battle of Hastings. Can't remember why, or what became of them.

Yes. I used to shop there as a child. Apparently he got petrol bombed in the end.

It was run by Frank Black and his wife Penny
Frank was hard of hearing - his ears were perforated

Used to have to write off to some place at  Eastrington, Google. Always made me smile.

Which country used to have the triangular stamps? Hungary?
