Michael Owen always confuses cheating with ‘being clever’.

Is that when you feel contact you can go down, its allowed and its the defenders fault for thinking about making a challenge.  Love professional football

Well he did play with the cleverest of them all Steven Gerrard.

I have never played a decent level but have played football all my life

I just wonder When do you think these pros get taught  it is  acceptable to play clever

And fall over when you feel contact

When the stakes are so high at that level professional athletes in pretty much all team sports will try and get an edge. And in a game as fast as football, you can quite good at deceiving the officials. Especially when you consider in the half where it happens there is only two sets of eyes trying to govern two teams. It’s not easy for the refs and the players know it.

I found that I could get hacked, kicked, pushed and lose control of the ball and never get a penalty unless I went down.
It’s the refs fault for not understanding that a foul is a foul even if it does not cause you to hit the deck.

The only way they are going to cut out diving is use harsh retrospective punishment.

Swansea had every right to feel very aggrieved last night though. They played 12 men all night.

I assume we all agree though, contact in and of itself, does not mean a foul. All too often lazy pundits tell us - there was contact and so the player had the right to go down and pose the question of the ref.

Frankly if we directed the ire at the diving players rather than the put upon refs that would get us somewhere.

Just saw Bournemouth's late equaliser against Brighton the other night. I love a classic goalmouth melee, and this was a fine shambles. Simultaneously one of the shittest, funniest and most enjoyable goals I've seen in a long time.

I enjoyed the game, it was end to end, torrential rain and I'm sure I heard it contained the most attempts on goal this season.

15 touches of the ball between the corner being taken and scoring.

And not one went where it was meant to go. Marvellous.

Hazard is another diver. Contact not enough to floor him and not on the shin he was clutching when he fell.
