Advice for Duisburg
« on: June 18, 2017, 12:24:20 PM »
book your internal  travel and hotels  in advance.  On the day travel prices are really hit and miss in Germany.  For a 6 euro ticket you could get stung  20 euros on the trains.  Not a place to jib the train either.

Hotels are cheaper in Duisburg  and if like me you are only going over for a long  weekend then Saturday in Dusseldolf  before train in the evening to Duisburg, Duisburg town sat night and sunday the match.  Leaving only Monday morning for left over drinks on the Rhine before the  airport.

Plus stay away from the boys choir at the cathedral or you may meet your end at the fangs of a vampire.

Don't mention the war. I did once, but I think I got away with it.

Tickets are sold out already. Anyone know if we're gonna get extra tickets?

We were only allocated 300, the ground holds 31,000 be lucky if there is 10,000 therefore getting in will not be a problem.

the tickets look great.

I travelled from Düsseldorf to Dortmund via Duisburg in March for the England game. Can't remember the exact fare but it wasn't much, and it was very easy to purchase tickets from the station ticket office on the day.

Would you have a link to an English language German train ticket website?

On the day of the match your match ticket covers public transport to and from the ground within the VRR area, which includes Düsseldorf and Duisburg. I've just phoned MSV, who've confirmed this. It's in the small print on the back of the ticket in the bottom right corner. Using the local train (S-Bahn), you can travel direct from Düsseldorf main station to Duisburg Schlenk (for the stadium) in under half an hour.
If you don't yet have a match ticket, the single fare's €5.80. There should be plenty of ticket machines at the station
