I agree with Rudy.  Ultimately if you do not want referees to be the subject of criticism (fair, impersonal criticism) demand that they are better at their jobs and provide them with the support to make it happen.

I also agree regarding the refereeing but the FA have major form regarding Twitter posts and punishment which is why I think it actually makes the post worse. Was it "abusive and/or insulting and/or improper?" as the FA claim/ found? It's almost like parking your car on double yellow in front of a traffic warden and then being surprised at the outcome when you get a fine. Wyness started his career as a graduate apparently in the press office marketing, promotions, sales dept at British Airways - so he's well aware of social media/press/print and its consequences and if he isn't by now then heaven help us. I hope he's not gonna follow in the footsteps of our last 2 CEO's who were unmitigated disasters but in my humble opinion this incident doesn't shower him in any glory whats so ever. If I was Tony I'd expect and want more from him. The FA well, I'd be surprised if everyone on here doesn't share too dissimilar a view on them - probably similar to traffic wardens (apologies in advance to anyone on here who is a traffic warden ;-).

Apparently the fine was doubled because he was also caught running down the corridor.

I really thought if anybody would come a cropper with twitter, it would be our owner.

Still a massive over reaction from the stuffed shirt brigade.

As a matter of interest have the FA dealt with Millwall over their numerous pitch invasions and fan trouble?

Way over the top.

I'm left wondering where the FA derive the authority to prevent a CEO from doing their job - he's employed by Villa, not the "Twats at the FA"...and where were they when Fox was in charge ?

The standard of refereeing in this league is absolutely abysmal. I'll never complain about the twonks we have in the top flight again!

The FA have done FA but the local Labour cancel are allegedly flogging their ground and banishing them to Kent.

Good job he didn't tweet anything racist, he'd have been banned for at least a week.

Millwall are very lucky they are not in Southwark.  They would make them play on the Goodwin Sands at low tide.

Reminds me of an anecdote I remember from Pat Partridge's autobiography (former referee for anyone under the age of forty).

Footballer: what would you do if I called you a c*nt?
Partridge: I'd have no choice under the rules of the game but to give you a red card.
Footballer: what would you do if I thought you were a c*nt?
Partridge: well, there wouldn't be anything I could do about that.
Footballer: in that case, ref, I think you're a c*nt.

If you're reading this FA, I think you're c*nts.

Yes a bit of a daft thing to do but a quiet word should have sufficed.  I do wonder what the legality of such a fine and suspension would be.  Can they legally take £10k off an employee of a club who is not  player?  And can they legally suspend them from doing their job?  What if the Cleaner, the Chef or the Ground keeper place an (so-called) offensive tweet?
