I had seen Ugo play in the reserves and when the man next to me stormed off in disgust on his 1st team debut I told him to watch out for him in future and he proved me right. I was lucky to meet him when we travelled in Europe and he was a lovely man. He wouldn't even diss Shearer for that awful tackle/assault.
RIP big man. Holte Ender in the Sky.

Lost for words. He was part of the Villa side that got me into the Villa. Great defender and partnership with Southgate. Was gutted when he left. What a terrible year to be a Villan. RIP big man. I will always remember you lining up the first time i saw the Villa live.

Very very sad. Another fantastic player from our mid 90s teams gone.

Sad period for the club....on field decline, little happened this season and lost Dalian Atkinson start of the season, Sir Graham in the middle and now Ugo at the end.

Desperately sad news, one of an elite bunch of players who have played over 300 games for us.
RIP big man and thanks for the memories.

Awful news. What a titanic defender he was. Certainly should have been recognised more at international level. All great teams are built on a strong defence and the sides he was in at Villa were great teams.

What kind of age is 44 to pass away? RIP Big Man, you were fantastic.

How many England caps did he get while playing for us?

I always remember that was the main reason he wanted to leave us and then we all scratched our heads when he ended up at Boro. In fairness he did play a few games for England when up there. He scored at the Holte End for England v Spain shortly after leaving us.

Very sad news - good player and more importantly a really nice bloke. Remember speaking to him in Ronnie Scott's on Broad Street after the last match of the season where we just about stayed up (BL's first season). I was worse for wear and just kept thanking him for helping us stay up.
