Passed away at 65.
Was between the sticks for a short while at a time when we were being awoken from our slumbers.

All I could tell you about him was he was in the photo for the 1971 league cup final and we sold him to Chelsea where he was the current day Mark Bunn.
Nevertheless 65 is far to young in this era. RIP

RIP John Phillips. 15 league (division 2) and 2 F.A. Cup appearances in 1969-70. The second Shrewsbury-born ex-Villa player to die in the past 12 months.

I remember him well and saw him play a few times. He was signed by Tommy Docherty and was considered a bright young thing at the time. RIP John Phillips.

I remember us signing him from Shrewsbury, for the grand fee of £30,000. I also remember whenever he took a goal kick he used to wipe his kicking boot on the back of his sock before he ran up to kick. Funny what you remember as a kid..

Even as a kid I remember thinking how young he looked compared to the rest of the team.

Remember him well, so sad 65 is no age.
My abiding memory is that he was very slight for a goalkeeper, good shot stopper but very poor with crosses.
He played a blinder and saved us in a goalless draw with Blues but lost his place to John Dunn in the 69-70 season.

Same memory as Oscar.
Slight, I seem to remember as a kid thinking it was a backhanded compliment that Chelsea were buying our reserve Goalkeeeper
What did he Die of, 65 is young.

I was a nipper so remember him but not that well.
From that cutting I see Harry Gregg's name mentioned. Wasn't he a mentor to Jimmy Rimmer too?
