139/5 Ambrose Ct Simpson b Murtagh 16

Lead 104

Twenty-five wickets fallen by just after lunch on day two. It's certainly a bowler's summer.

I doubt Bell will ever be let go by Warwickshire and at 35 he is not exactly over the hill by any means. He's still a player with a lot of class and has a tremendous lot to offer. He's had a poor season, but his experience is invaluable. If/when we are relegated, he's the one to bring us back up, leading the quality young lads Gilo is recruiting.
Next year I could see -

Umeed/Hain/Rhodes
Sibley
Hose
Trotty
Bell
Hain
Ambrose
Barker
Patel
Wright
Stone

Plus Lamb, Poysden, Brooks, Sidebottom (?), Thomason and a couple more signings.

Time to consider moving on from Wright I think, as he's far too injury prone and ends up missing big chunks of every season.   Don't know if the budget is there and it would also depend on Jeet going back to being a Kolpak, but it would be good if we could bring in a good overseas bowling option.

Read somewhere that despite him being an all-rounder, we are looking at Rhodes opening next season.  We were apparently after Kohler-Cadmore and Bell-Drummond but missed out on both.

You could be right regarding Wright!

Woakes going well with the bat at the moment.  Double edged sword for us really, as if he gets a big score and bowls well he will put us in a good position to win the game, but by doing that he will also increase the likelihood of going straight back into the England side and we'll not see him again this summer!!

Somewhat of a recovery from Bears battling to 218/5 at Tea a lead of 183.
Lamb 53*
Woakes 41*

You never know.
As an aside Rikki Clarke 2/18 on his 2nd Surrey debut his 2 wickets coming in successive balls.

On the Wright issue - a lot of it depends on Olly Stone for me we have invested a lot of time in him and all we
have to show for it is a 4 over spell at New Rd, if they can guarantee he is gonna be fit then there may be a case for
letting Wright go. Personally i would keep if he has another year on his contract.

Olly Stone is short of match fitness,  hence why he's playing for Norfolk in the Minor Counties League to build-up that fitness after such a bad injury. I think you'll see more from him next season.

Great recovery from The Bears.

Great win for Essex within two days against the Yorkies. It's looking good for our first title in 25 odd years.

That Essex attack is something special. Aamir's world-class left-arm swing opening with Porter's right-arm pace, then on spinning wickets, Simon Harmer rips through any side in the division.

Weather forecast for the London area looks grim today and tomorrow. Just when a win looks promising, it looks likely to ruin our chances!

At least they're playing although it's anyone's guess how long they will be out there for.

Lead is now 274.

Need to get runs on the board as soon as possible and get them batting.  We are fast approaching the 'nothing to lose' stage so really need to go for it.

334-8, lead 299.

We need to take a chance of a declaration as Tom points out.
