Fletcher won't play for the rest of the season, he's got off lightly could have been so much worse.

Hit him on the top of the head which could have been bad enough.  I shudder to think what could have happened if it had him in the eye, or in the nose / mouth. He was on the 5Live cricket show last night and said that he and the other bowlers at Notts won't go near the nets when the batsmen are practicing for T20s, as it just too dangerous.  They were discussing the possible need for protective head gear for bowlers in that format of the game.

Saw a bit of the Hampshire and Sussex match tonight and one of the Sussex bowlers and the umpire almost suffered a similar fate.

They were saying on the previously discussed 5Live show that the authorities need to be proactive about the issue and not just wait until there is a tragedy.

It's a difficult one really because what can you do which gives protection but isn't cumbersome to wear in the field and downright limiting for bowlers?  Imagine seeing a quickie sprinting in with a helmet and chest guard and it becomes clear that you can't solve this with existing equipment.

Well we almost pulled it out the fire and considering Clarke couldn't bowl a fair effort in the end.

Hopefully Worcs are going the other way about it this year, two defeats down might need a run to make knock outs :-)

One option they were saying was a rugby style scrum cap.

Yeah something in that direction is probably going to be the answer but they don't offer a great deal of impact protection, because that's not really their job.

Rob Key is good on Sky. His 'dabbing' impression the other day had me in stitches. Although Corky is up his own arse, he's also one of the better ones.
