Was a good season for Worcs. Until June started.

Seemed to go wrong at time of Kohler-Cadmore issue, think at that time Fell needed to be taken out of the team but all of a sudden batting order was two short.  We'll see what today brings, will it be a collapse, bat out the day or go for it?

Positive start. Long way to go.

Great result. Promotion push back on.

Shambolic indeed.  Fast approaching the time to put Jim out of his misery and install Giles back as coach?

I don't think that the coaching is the issue, it's the players who are having a collective cluster-fuck of a season. I think there will be a few seasons before we see much improvement. I back Giles to turn it around but it will take time.

Indeed :-) think there's only one more game of Mo filling one of the middle order holes tho so either need Clarke & Mitchell to largely carry it or others have to step up with big runs....

I don't even think many players are having that bad a season (Bell aside).

It's just that the likes of Umeed, Westwood, Hannon-Dalby, wouldn't even get a game at somewhere like Leicestershire.

We have a steady-eddie like Clarke opening the bowling when he should be about 2nd change. No genuine pace in the attack whatsoever, and only 2 batsmen good enough to bat in the first 6 in Division 1.

Didn't replace Chopra at opener (though Westwood is having a decent season) and suffered injuries with bowlers but a side that contains a spine on of Porterfield, Trott, Bell, Hain, Ambrose, Barker, Clark and Patel should not be struggling as badly as they are.

Agree on Chopra, even if you pick Westwood (I don't think he's good enough) then we are still an opener short.

Porterfield has never been good enough in the 4-day format for me, his average of just 30 backs that up. Hain shouldn't be an automatic pick, he's still learning his trade and been short of runs for a while. Clarke is 36 so should really be more of a bit-part player given his age and the fact he's never been the quickest, just shows our lack of strike-bowling options when he has to open.

Pretty much sums up the mess we currently find ourselves in.

There has been a bit of bad luck with injuries in the bowling department, but Rankin and Wright have a history of injuries.  The lad from Northants not being available has been a blow, but it was anticipated that he might miss the whole summer.  When you factor in Woakes was likely to be on England duty for the majority of the season, what exactly were they thinking?

Although he's not good enough to open in Division 1, I think he could have been useful next season in Division 2.

Warwickshire County Cricket Club has signed Yorkshire all-rounder and former England Under 19s captain Will Rhodes on a two-year contract, starting at the end of the current playing season.

Rhodes (22) has played 19 First Class games and was part of Yorkshire’s County Championship-winning team in 2015. He has also made 21 List A and 18 T20 appearances and has been part of the professional ranks at Yorkshire for four years.

[Ashley Giles"]Will is a genuine all-rounder and very exciting cricketer, who has the versatility to bat anywhere from one to seven in the batting order whilst also being a strong addition to our seam bowling attack.[/quote]

In 2014 he captained England to third place in the Under 19s World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, where he took eight wickets and scored 187 runs.

Ashley Giles, Sport Director at Warwickshire CCC, said: “Will is a genuine all-rounder and very exciting cricketer, who has the versatility to bat anywhere from one to seven in the batting order whilst also being a strong addition to our seam bowling attack.

“He is a great character with leadership experience, as a former captain of England U19s and Yorkshire Academy. At 22 he has a good future ahead of him and we are delighted to welcome him to Warwickshire CCC.”
Will Rhodes said: “I’m very excited to sign for Warwickshire for the next two years and to take this next step in my career with a club that has also has such a proud history and outstanding facilities. I’ve had some great discussions with Ashley Giles and the coaching team at Edgbaston and I look forward to joining up with the squad very soon.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my 12 years in the set-up at Yorkshire, particularly my last four years as a professional. My thanks go to all players, coaches and staff for their support and I wish them the very best for the future.”

Surely at this time of year, it doesn't get dark enough for the lights to take full effect? Surely they could have had the round of day nighters in April/May
