Ours was a gradual increase over the course of approx a decade from the low of the mid 80s to the mid 90s, same as a lot of other clubs, mostly for the reasons you have given, I don't disagree with any of that. But they didn't double overnight which was my point. Whether it was old fans returning or new fans starting, overnight Newcastle went from around 13-17K every week to 28-29K every week. We went from 13-17K to 29K+ over the course of 7 years.

It's not a cliche or anything else you've spent a couple of weeks claiming, it wasn't because of Sky (it was 18 months before them), or post hooliganism or the national interest increasing as the rise i'm talking about was instantaneous not a gradual increase like us or other clubs. It was purely because of one thing, Keegan (and Hall if you like) turned up.

I just don't get why it's so hard for you, or other Newcastle fans, to admit.

Our attendances went to shit in the mid 80s and improved massively over the next decade. It really is easy to admit. If they'd doubled overnight because we appointed SGT or BFR i'd have no problem admitting that either.

The reason I won't accept that is because it doesn't show the whole picture. Keegan took over in 92, after a season where avg attendance was at it's lowest (c17k) and it increased by 30% to c21k, which was the same avg attendance the club saw the year before Keegan took over.

St James' was extended in 1993, Newcastle were on the up, and all the other myriad factors contributed to the rise in attendances.

It seems like you're trying to paint a picture of fickle or disloyal fans, which patently isn't true.

Was Keegan and Hall a contributory factor in the rise in our attendances? Sure, but they weren't the only reason, nor necessarily the key reason, so I'm not sure why you're obsessed with demanding Geordies "admit" it?

Well it only rose to 21K because from Feb on you were pulling 25-29K instead of the 13-17K you had been for well over a year. I wonder what happened in Feb that caused that sudden increase. Any ideas?

Genuine question, why are you obsessed with 6 months of another clubs history? ;D

You honestly seem to be implying that Keegan being part of the reason that attendances returned to normal growth is a bad thing? Big crowds before, big crowds during, big crowds after. But you're focussed on, what, 6 months or so? A period where the club was in the depths of turmoil, both on the pitch and more importantly in the boardroom. Once Sir John Hall wrested control from the others he was able to put money into the coffers to go some way to reverse the impression that NUFC were a selling club.

Basically there'd been years of decline and neglect, then all of a sudden we had an owner who loved the club and was ambitious, a club legend managing us and a host of exciting new players. Of course some of the supporters who'd vowed to stay away until changes were made came back. But you crack on implying that we're fairweather fans if it makes your trousers tent  ::)

I'm not the one that's spent 15 hours on another team's forum and then told them they are ones obsessed. I also never said it was a bad thing, I simply said, and you have confirmed it for about 2 weeks now, that it's tedious how Newcastle fans won't admit it. No one would give a shit about it if you did.
You crack on telling yourself it was Sky even though they weren't around, keep telling yourself it was only 6 months when it was longer, and the myriad of other excuses you and every Newcastle fan comes out with. Meanwhile i'll crack on with being obsessed about Newcastle by not posting on their fan sites.

I haven't told "them" they're obsessed. Just curious why this part of another club's history rankles you so? I mean, it must do. You must have spoken to loads of Newcastle fans about this particular topic to have the opinion.

End of the day I've happily agreed Keegan was part of the reason our attendances spiked, but you seem to need to see a Newcastle fan say that Keegan's return dragged the crowds back to a deserted St James' park regardless of the broader context.

I, for one, have no idea why this would bother you so much, but spending a couple of minutes to reply to your assertions isn't really a mark of obsession, just exercising my right of reply.

Why did your attendances drop in the 80s? Only to recover in the 90s? Bet it was a host of reasons, right? Because it's a complex question that cannot simply be attributed to 1 facet? Nah, it must have just been one thing.  ::)

You've spent 15 hours on a Villa site, not a couple of minutes here and there. And i've already answered that, I know that giving a straight answer must confuse you but look back, it's there.

Well, all I can find is "Our attendances went to shit in the mid 80s and improved massively over the next decade. It really is easy to admit. If they'd doubled overnight because we appointed SGT or BFR i'd have no problem admitting that either."

Which doesn't explain why at all.

You've not answered anything,  you've dodged every question, come up with some unfathomable nonsense and generally acted like a typical Newcastle 'world revolves around us'  clown.  You've been good to laugh at but your usefulness has been outlived so go and bone somewhere else.  I promise you can come back when Newcastle have won a trophy.

Well it's there, try looking really hard.

Well, in the time you took to type that out you could have just linked to it. I mean, you know what you're looking for and if you can't be arsed to link it, you could have just repeated it?

I'm not sure why you wouldn't?
