As much as i've wanted him gone for ages i'm not going to hold it against them that they gave him 11 games to prove if he was, or wasn't, the right man for the job.

They gave him a chance which he spurned.

He was given rope by the new owners to hang himself. Which he did and we all kind of knew he would.

Last night was just showing off. Fucking spectacular display.

I think the events of last night and the recent malaise does not reflect well on the new management.
This should have happened weeks ago, it took a boatload of abuse and a cabbage / lettuce to get him out.
The vacuum left by a lack of leadership leads to extremism.

Blimey, they have had 11 games to assess his performance, half (could be less) of those without a CEO.  This has grown very rapidly from probably the Blackburn game.  I would hardly call it lack of leadership, especially as we do not know what has been going on behind the scenes.

I'd say it was good leadership. Bruce had his chance, they monitored him, they haven't been rash or controlling and have been decisive when the wheels came off. There's still time to pull this round.

I dont know. To me if have ambitions to get to the promised land of the premiership and compete there, then clearly Bruce wasn't your man footballing wise. I would have preferred them to be more decisive, and made a clean break in the summer. It would have been obviously easier to prise away an employed candidate from a club then, compared to when you're a quarter of the way through the season.

I'd mostly agree with that, it's been a bad month and I'd have ditched him straight after sheff utd but I'm not upset they decided to let it play out. The only slight change is that i think he should've gone at the weekend. They were probably hoping to get to the break but it meant there was always a chance for it to get a bit nasty last night.

Isn't it funny that all the people saying Bruce is fantastic haven't had him manage their club. Ask supporters who have followed  a potato head club for something closer to the truth.

Good point.

Now that he's gone I'd like to day that I'm sorry for the number of disagreements I've been involved with on this thread. It's never been a case of looking for them,  I just hated seeing us waste opportunity after opportunity under Bruce and couldn't believe the amount of support he got for what I've always seen as lazy, dull and ineffective management.

At times the results were ok but it was never anything sustainable and I could never get behind that sort of shit or bust approach as l always thought it would fail.

I just hope that the next guy doesn't lead to another 18 months of arguments on here.

We had at least 18 months of arguments on here when MON was getting us into Europe with top six finishes and getting us to cup semi finals and a final so don't hold your breath.

Ha! I thouht that earlier. Let's all agree that everyone else is a ****** and all will be well with the world.

It's no different to people like 'Appy 'Arry and pubhead. Loads of people bang on about what good managers they are and yet I doubt there's too many at the clubs they've managed that would touch them with a barge pole. I remember us telling that Sunderland fan that came on here about pubehead and he didn't really believe it, they all just think it's sour grapes.

God aye. It seems mental looking back we trusted him to get us into the CL. I mean, he's currently employing Roy Keane as assistant manager. And not as a joke!

I'm pretty sure fans of Wycombe, Leicester and Celtic would be very positive about MON. 'Arry does tend to leave a trail of financial disaster in his wake (Portsmouth, QPR and Small Heath) but I would imagine Bournemouth, Spurs and possibly West Ham fans would speak quite positively about him.

So between them, out of 16 jobs only 5 or 6 are probably positives. The prosecution rests m'lud.  :P

Sky: Sacking Steve Bruce was 'a mistake' by Aston Villa, The Debate panel agree

I'm guessing the person who wrote the quotes on that page is the same as who writes Bruce's post match comments script!!!

The set-up of the team at the start of the second half against Preston summed up Bruce's negative mindset. Even before the penalty debacle we hadn't crossed the halfway line with any intent. He obviously told his players to sit deep and hold on at Half-time. When we were forced to attack at 2-3 Preston's defence was rubbish. A more attacking approach second-half we would of most likely won it.

I love this thing about ‘pedigree’ of getting teams promoted. Firstly he’s failed twice with Villa and secondly there’s absolutely nothing on the pitch to indicate we looked anything like promotion contenders.
