I have wanted Steve Bruce to go for a long time but personal abuse of anyone is not right.

I dunno, I’m a (fairly) responsible middle aged father of 2 who should know better but I laughed at the cabbage chucking incident last night. Childish I know but only football reveals this side of my character. My uncle got nicked at Villa in the 70’s for chucking potatoes ( it was our nan’s shopping) at the coppers so maybe it’s in my genes....

I've known a few people personally that have deserved to have vile insults and abuse thrown at them in the way Bruce has been of late, much worse in fact. I'm sure we all have. As for a football manager of the club I support whose not doing very well, I would say that sort of thing is over the top. Yes, heated remarks that directly relate to some of the things he's said in the press about the fans would be justified and the 'Bruce out' chants are fine, but some of it is OTT.
On the other hand, I think the cabbage thing is fine and actually pretty funny as long as it's not thrown with force directly at his head and is thrown out in front of where he's walking. It's a bit like a more amusing version of the waving of the white hankies at Barcelona.

yep, I'm the same. Probably my sense of humour but the whole thought process of someone bringing down a cabbage to throw at Nan's Hair just tickles me. I laughed like a drain when my mate pulled up this tweet last night.

Police are working with Aston Villa to find a fan who threw a cabbage at the Championship club's boss Steve Bruce.

The vegetable did not hit Bruce, but he was angered by the incident before Tuesday's 3-3 home draw with Preston.

A West Midlands police spokesperson said: "A cabbage was thrown at the dugout from the stand. We are working with the club to identify the person."

Villa are 12th in the league table and have won one of their past 10 games in all competitions.

Bruce, who has been in charge for two years, said the spectator had shown a lack of respect.

"To say it's disappointing is an understatement for a club like this," said Bruce.

"Unfortunately, it sums up the society we are in at the moment. There's no respect for anyone."

Villa surrendered a 2-0 lead against the Championship's bottom club before scoring a late equaliser and missing a 97th-minute penalty.

Football is an extremely emotional game and for a lot of people their mood and even sense of self-worth or self-esteem can be tied up with their team and how well or poorly it is doing.  So it's little wonder people get angry and shout abuse when they experience constant and repeated failings in a particular individual who is paid huge amounts for his so called expertise, and who then tries to deflect blame anywhere he can and belittle those who dare to criticise him.  He's a football manager not a vicar, it goes with the territory, if you regularly piss off 30,000 people you are going to get some abuse.  The Millions he is being paid should serve as some kind of compensation for being called a C*** .  I'd be more than happy to swap places for a year.  I dread to think what some of you would have made of the chants crowds came out with in the pre-PC and professional offence-taking age of 60s 70s and 80s. 

As for pundits, mostly ex British footballers therefore mostly as thick as shit and will mostly stick up for their equally thick as shit mates.  File under irrelevant.
