Just general abusive language, all personally directed at him. He stood there and just looked at the floor.
The fans were middle aged respectable people, women branding him a c*nt, men shouting obscenities.

It just wasn't comfortable , and nobody deserves that, even in this situation.

Thats my opinion anyway, im sure most disagree with me

I don't.

is it not classed as personal abuse to call him a crap manager ?

Not really, thats part and parcel of the situation he is in.

to call him a 'Useless fat C*NT' is though

I thought Bruce had gone a few minutes ago. Jim White dramatically said there was "big new regarding Aaaa.."
He really drew that part out and I was convinced he was going to say "Aaaaston Villa" but he said "Aaaandrew Strauss".

Personal abuse & harassment isn't on, regardless of people's opinion of the man.  It's a bit of a grey line between what's personal and what's not, and it is going to be overstepped occasionally, but still ...

I'd think the start of the international break is a good time to appoint a new manager - give them a (short) period to assess the squad without having the pressure of games / squad selection.  Whether Bruce is removed before or after Millwall, in that respect, is by-the-by.  And he needs to be removed, since it's not a good environment either for the club or for him personally now, regardless of his football management skills (or lack thereof).

I don't either.  I get the fact that emotions are running high, but would the same people shouting abuse last night speak to someone who was under performing in their own line of work like that?  Throwing objects is completely out of order and those headlines really don't reflect well on our fans for what it's worth.

I still admire a number of things about Steve Bruce and felt his conduct towards the end of last season was commendable when he was going through a very tough time off the field.  That said he has not achieved what he was brought to the club to do, continues to make inexplicable decisions and has a habit of being antagonistic in the press when things aren't going well.

He should have gone in the summer and all that has really been achieved by keeping him on is a delay to that decision which could  now cause us major disruption.

I've known a few people personally that have deserved to have vile insults and abuse thrown at them in the way Bruce has been of late, much worse in fact. I'm sure we all have. As for a football manager of the club I support whose not doing very well, I would say that sort of thing is over the top. Yes, heated remarks that directly relate to some of the things he's said in the press about the fans would be justified and the 'Bruce out' chants are fine, but some of it is OTT.
On the other hand, I think the cabbage thing is fine and actually pretty funny as long as it's not thrown with force directly at his head and is thrown out in front of where he's walking. It's a bit like a more amusing version of the waving of the white hankies at Barcelona.

I agree I think the personal stuff isn't acceptable and it's unnecessary. He's doing a terrible job, he should be fired, but his weight etc is completely irrelevant. Worth noting as well, that weight gain and stress could easily have been caused from a very tough time personally.

Is he definitely on a rolling contract?

If so, I wonder whether he was given notice and the one year clock is ticking?

As for the abuse, there is no need for it.  Bruce has done nothing wrong as a person, he has just failed in his professional capacity.  Any insults should centre around how tactically inept he is.  Most managers in the division would be getting results with the players at Bruce's disposal.

I sort of agree with the comments about personal abuse but the flip side of that is that there's been plenty of reasonably constructive criticism, highlighting specific flaws and he's dismissed it with an attitude that people who haven't played the game at the top level don't know what they're talking about. If we hadn't had 2 years of excuses over the same problems week after week with him dismissing the concerns as hysteria or just coming from the 'mad' then it might not have got to this point.

The cabbage thing is clearly ridiculous and any physical threats should be dealt with severely but moaning about a lack of class because people are calling him useless and adding a swear word or 2 is taking it too far, for me.

Surely it's only personal if he considers himself to be a fat ******?

Not really. No need for vitriol in person.

Are you saying reasonably constructive criticism on Twiiter, or screamed at him from the stands during match days?  Or are you expecting him to come on here to debate tactics?

What manager has ever responded to fan criticism with dialogue and discussion?

There's no flip side Paul, the personal abuse is disgusting and unacceptable.

Indeed. I think the closest thing we had to that was the 'African car reverser' but I don't recall the car being on fire...
