Watched an old Fools and Horses. Made me think about the Heroes and Villans who wil like be at B6 tonight. A fat Geordie chancer says " this time next year we will be there or there abouts".
It only took Del Boy 15 years.

“We’ve lost twice in ten games and we could quite easily have won three or four of the draws. We’d then be sitting in a different position.”

If it had been that fucking easy we should have fucking done it. But we didn't and actually we were more likely to lose 3 or 4.

Weren't Cardiff below us when he took over? And Wolves were hardly pulling up trees either. He's failed in his two years here, simple as that.

bottom 3 I think .

Exactly. Could have easily lost two of those draws.

There is no question that when we came down our club was rotten from the top to the players. RDM may have been used to better quality of players but was not able to change that awful mentality that was still prevalent in our first season.
In fairness Bruce has stopped the rotten nature and attitude of the club as a whole (although I think Senior pro's such as Terry / Snodgrass etc helped also) by instilling a team ethic and a togetherness and we should thank him for that. Unfortunately now that has been addressed he just does not have the footballing ability to blend the players collected into a workable, winning team.

Thanks for the ground work Steve but now politely piss off before we all really start to dislike you
Completely agree.  Not many on here will give him credit for turning us round but I do think he came into a very difficult situation and did well to steady the ship.  But he failed to take the next step, albeit with some misfortune on the way, but the play off surrender itself should have been sufficient for him to get his cards.

i don't think he steadied anything,
to carry on with the titanic references he took the ship over and headed it right towards the iceberg

we nearly went under a few weeks ago, he's not totally to blame but his on the pitch failures and the players he bought with no real sell on value together with the massive wages we are paying didn't help

we are now two years down the road with Bruce, facing at ffp problems in no small part down to him,  the teams disjointed and abject performances most weeks totally down to him

we are further back now then when he came

he has steadied no ship imo he is are very own Edward J Smith

Re: Titanic comparisons: To be fair, they had some great music by all accounts, but the iceberg was there and thereabouts and wasn't listening.  So down they went.

Yes conveniently forgetting that in two of those draws we went into injury time behind, and in another we failed to mount a serious  attack against 10 men for an hour.

For a minute I thought that was directed at me!! Haha. It's so fucking obvious though isn't it? He hasn't a clue and is getting desperate.

Like watching an insect slowly die, it's tortured and twisted body writhing around, trying to attack and sting it's attackers without being able to reach and forgetting that it lost it's sting a long time ago anyway. Every defeat we have is like another leg is removed, or some water is poured on top, until, eventually it's gone.

I'm not so sure he's getting the bullet anytime soon. Beat Preston and even if all the other results went against us, we'd still be 7th and 1 point off the play-offs. They're not gonna sack him while we're in that position. That's the play-offs........

1st Season - Good start followed by very bad spell and squad re shape (which we can see now was pretty cobbled together), followed by very good spell followed by disappointing finale. Overall, half decent and steadied the ship, happy to keep him.
2nd Season - Poor start after more squad re shaping with some good if not long term signings. Picked up and went on a largely good run until after Wolves at home. A borderline disasterous end of league campaign and some unspectacular play off performances ultimately resulting in failure. Overall, a solid if largely unspectacular campaign which came up short.
3rd Season - a clusterfuck of a transfer window (McGinn aside) admittedly not helped by the off field uncertainty but despite the season before petering out I was happy to see him start the season under the circumstances. After a good first game it's been pretty much a disaster since and we have a unbalanced squad for which there is no excuse. Should have gone after Sheffield Utd, then after Sheffield Wednesday etc. The boat has sailed on this one and the quicker we make the change the better.

instead of looking at is season by season I find doing it as a run of games give s abetter picture of why he's failed.

It gets even worse if you run across seasons, end of season to season 2 we had a run of 12 points from 13 games, that relegation form for the best part of a third of a season of matches and then last year into this you have 38 points from 25 games, that's not relegation standard but rather firmly mid-table over a period of more than half a season.  Add in a customary mid-season slump (you get it if you check his results through his entire career) and you get to the core of why we're going nowhere under him.

Yes, the shitty end of last season followed by the brainless transfer window followed by the shitty start to this season is ultimately why my patience has run out personally.
