When Bruce was appointed Zenga was still manager of Wolves, they had Lambert next. Imagine where Wolves would be if they'd given the time to either of those 2 that Bruce whines he needs.

I’m not convinced Smith is a good idea, and the fact he’s a Villa fan is pretty irrelevant for me.

Brendan Rodgers would be good as he still has a point to prove after leaving Liverpool.

Because they finished sixth in the league above the one we're currently in the bottom half of.

I sort of agree with the foregoing but you have to ask yourself do you want a manager who has done it all and wants to rest on his reputation or one who wants to make a name for himself?  I am not talking about young and hungry I am talking about young and unstoppable.

As Risso's shown, only Bournemouth have gone up in recent years coming off the back of fewer points in the opening ten games than we currently have, and that's how they did it. Howe has always come across as focused and with a plan, indeed a lot like Klopp. I'll have some of that.

It's irrelevant in some ways Paul, but I do think it is relevant in others.  He would understand the expectations of the club, so we'd hopefully not have another manager complaining about the fans being too demanding.  It would also be his dream job, so we would be having a manager arriving with a real determination to do well, rather than someone who sees the job as being beneath them.

Hopefully he could also advise how the set up at Brentford works in terms of their recruitment and maybe bring some of those staff with him.  I do think those things make him a decent candidate.

I just don’t see how someone who has done reasonably well at Brentford is the man to takeover and succeed at Villa. The set up and expectation at Brentford is completely different.

It's the old Monty Python joke.  Is the turkey in the oven, is the turkey out of the oven is the turkey half way in the oven?  Where do you define your parameters of manager selection.  For arguments sake say Wenger is the turkey in the oven.  Proven in every way but with nothing left to prove and say Henry on the other hand.  The turkey out of the oven.  No track record everything to prove.  The odds are that the choice will be somewhere between the two.  The future of the club is on the knife edge of that call.

VILLA. Bruce may get next two games before decision made at break. Dean Smith name being mentioned and checked.

And you don't get much more unequivocal than that. Bravo, Mr Nixon, brafuckingvo. Way to earn them wages.
Nixon is a genius.🙄

Is it that much difference to Brian Little getting a shot? IIRC he was only a premier league manager for six months when we poached him from Leicester. We also signed a manager who was in the bottom half of the 2nd divison with Wycombe and that worked out o.k for a few years.

Absolutely agree Tom. Smith has a style of play, something we've been lacking for years and years. He's 47, not exactly a rookie. I think he's perfect for us at the moment.

...and yes, he'll definitely "get it". Helped his Dad sweep the steps of the Holte End. Dream job for him, go for it.
