If we had got rid of him when the new owners took over we would have had to have a caretaker manager.  With our run of easy opening games the odds are that our position now would be very similar.  The big bonus would have been to send out a message to the world of football that things were going to be very different at Villa Park.  Instead Bruce spun it with the help of his media friends that he was getting a vote of confidence from the new owners.  The bringing in of new players has been botched and the image of us remains as downbeat as it has for four years.  We are already playing catch up.

Just about the only thing I have liked so far about Bruce is his outing of fat Ross.

I don't disagree with that Aftab.  Out him by all means but don't flush ten million quid of  the club's money down the toilet.

I can't believe Bruce is still manager. There are 1246 pages on this thread giving reasons as to why he shouldn't be. Owners/decision makers like our new CEO get their money by making important decisions at difficult times. That's their role, get on with it and prevent Villa from walking down a cul-de-sac. Bruce's mismanagement isnt going to get any better. As things stand especially with how our defence is made up, we are likely to concede against both Blackburn and Rotherham, so both of these upcoming games could be banana skins. Confidence is low amongst fans and players, so for me its Bruce out now, while we have a 2 week break to do something about it. He can take his useless backroom staff with him as well.

I'd be surprised if they sacked him now. I think he will get the Blackburn, Rotherham and Wednesday games.

7 points minimum, although we need all 9 to catch up on the average required.

Yes true. There is been no evidence for follow up recovery on an asset.

Next game on Sky - stars have aligned. All very predictable. I think Blackburn will finish Bruce.

I have just read the full transcript from his post Sheff Utd press conference. You have to conclude he talks utter drivel and he's totally deluded. First: "I have been out of this league four times" What? That doesn't even make sense although I understand what he was trying to say. Second: " we got to the play off final so I think that proves I do know what I'm doing" (obviously aimed at the fans) We fucking lost Steve. And on saturday he blamed unfit players. Deflection. The truth is we got battered by a side who in only there second year have learned lessons from the first, stabilized things and kicked on to the point where they batter a team who beat them at the same venue last year. All with a fraction of the resources afforded to Bruce. He's a charlatan. A shit manager and worst of all a bullshitter who's just biding his time waiting for his big pay off.

I agree entirely and would add that we were utterly played off the park by a Fulham team, whose manager had rightly surmised that our team of 30 somethings would be knackered, and they passed it round us at their leisure.  Our tactics in the first half did not appear to extend past passing it back to the keeper for him to hump it back to their defenders.  That game was just a perfect example of a modern, progressive manager giving an old dinosaur a lesson in how to do things.

Good call The Edge.  Bruce's treatment of Ross McCormack was every bit as bad as any piece of bomb squaddery by Lambert.

In fairness, no-one really knows what has gone on there and no other team has taken him even on loan over here apart from Forest a while back.

But idiotically playing it out in public & for cheap publicity points he devalued him to the point that we are stuck with him.
Aye. Bruce's management skills at their finest.

But the fans would have wanted to know whay he wasn't being picked. Would you have rather him lied about it? Besides, word of what happened would have got round anyway.

No-one was asking him to hush it up, just don't go on national tv and radio with the story and trash him.  Reo-coker got into a bust up with MON and that got out, but i don't remember us getting a blow by blow commentary of what happened from the manager. McCormack is for now ever more known as the guy who couldn't climb over his fence. You deal with stuff like this as quietly as you can with a maximum fine internally and it if gets out your tell them its a disciplinary, not slag off his attitude and fitness.

But the guy wasn't turning up for training. Besides years ago the manager might have got away with keeping it quiet. With social media now, it's virtually impossible. You only have to look at Adomah's brother's outburst on Twitter. No, Bruce did the right thing for me.

You're both spot on.

Unfortunately I'm left feeling very apathetic about it all this morning. Saturday had me livid. By yesterday it was confined to distant memory. Today I couldn't care less, all because I know in my heart of hearts he won't get sacked. And if there's no consequences for dragging our brilliant club through the fucking dirt, then honestly what's the point? It shouldn't be the way but it certainly feels like it is. How long did it take us to sack Lambert? Getting rid of RDM quickly was brave enough but then only because he'd spent a fecking fortune on dross and after a handful of games anyone could see it. Bruce has stumbled on over nearly 3 years, learning zero lessons, goading the fans with his nonsense at times, failing to blood our talented youth to the point where I fear many of them will not make it, all the while getting both physically and proverbially fatter and fatter.

Which begs another question, how does a man involved in professional sport manage to look fitter when he's NOT professionally involved? Get your arse out there with the lads, Steve, knock a ball or two about every now and then. Maybe then you'd realise the way you're setting us up to play is bloody toxic.

The only reason the fence bit got out was because Bruce mentioned it. From the original quote he missed training twice by the sounds of it. i'm willing to bet there's been players who've done similar at other clubs and we haven't heard about it. If his attitude stunk and he was overweight then yes, Bruce was right not to play him. Just fine him,  drop him, get him fit and sell him. Don't broadcast the facts to everyone

I thought it was common knowledge that whilst he pissed off Bruce with missing training, the wider issue was his dietary preferences.
