There’s a simple question to answer, will Bruce get us promoted this season? For me the answer is no. Therefore he must go.

The other and more important question is do we know what we are looking for in a replacement? There are a number of directions rhe club can go and they need to have a clear plan in mind ahead of any recruitment process.

The speed of the build up play from Villa is probably one of the slowest in the Division; plenty of possession but very little cutting edge. Bruce does not appear to be one of the more tactically astute managers in the division. It is now clear he struggles to motivate the players. Sadly he does need to go; but rather than throwing the potato out wish the dishwater the Club needs a carefully thought out succession plan and that is likely to be a challenge in itself.

If you were feeling particularly patient and generous you could argue that although he has a strong spine to the team, he has also lost one and it may take a little time to re-gel.

But I’m not.

I mention to bloke I was  talking to that he’s not a master tactician, if he now can’t motivate the team to effort then there aren’t many positives left

surely no one really expected to wake up this morning and discover Bruce had gone?

I've got a horrible feeling he won't be for some time either.

Christmas in reverse.

Most of us will have woken up this morning with one question on our mind;

"Has he gone yet?"

Sadly not.

RDM wasn't sacked until Monday 3rd October. Preston humbled us on the Saturday.

It's such an attractive job;

Huge club
Top flight facilities
Ridiculous squad
Insanely wealthy owners

It's all there crying out for a bit of organisation, planning Monday-Friday, systemic ideas of battering a side and then having the force of personality to deal with it and push it through.

And it needn't be a stepping stone as if you complete your objective then it's funny money time.

From the comments section of that seven year old Louise Taylor article

The real issues for me which I posted on a another thread a few days back were:

1) Frequent fallings out with players who are then moved on before we have sourced a replacement (Danny Collins, Kenwyne Jones, Darren Bent, Gyan).

2) Bizzare tactical decisions such as playing your attacking central midfielder (Vaughan) away to Man U and your defensive midfielder (Cattermole) at home to Fulham and Wigan.

3) Constant changes to the team and system which suggests tactical naivety and poor use of substututions (bringing on players three minutes from time at home when you are drawing in a game you need to win).

4) A hoplessely unbalanced transfer policy that has led in turn to an unbalanced team which is the root of the problem. Last weekend we started with a right back playing at left back and a centre half playing at right back. Neither fullback therefore gets forward effectively and they NEVER, and I mean NEVER overlap the wide players. Add in a wide left player who is a right footed centre forward and therefore cuts in all of the time and we have a team that NEVER (and again I mean NEVER) gets to the byline and pulls the ball back.

Ringing any bells?  Point 4 is especially on the money given his recent insane transfer activity and selections.  It all sounds extremely familiar, and shows that he has learned nothing in the intervening years.  It also shows what a prick Wyness was for hiring him.
